Been regularly playing for some years now and always encountered the occasional cheater, aim hacker, teamer and the likes. Although it’s never nice it was bearable.
This season is different: Getting beamed in three clean headshots from 80 metres away with a green ar while moving behind cover… Watching such players after elimination constantly hitting headshots over 50 metres while running and jumping wildly… Getting hit in bushes and trees without line of sight… And that happens nearly every fucking match. Reporting is pointless, epic is not even trying to contain the problem. Selling skins is more profitable, of course it is.
It’s so annoying when you just want to run around and have some shoot outs, and then some people who barely know how to navigate the map eliminate you out of the corner of their eyes.
If anyone knows a nice and relaxing shooter that runs on Switch 2 please let me know. Thanks.
How can it have cheating? Sweeney said all the cheaters are on linux, which is why he’s blocked linux from playing it?
It’s a miracle.
And besides giving up on crowd control epic roally and massively fucks up their products. There’s the Desaster of lego fortnite, a potential mega seller, and it’s drowning in bugs and the dumbest product management ever. Best part I’ve seen bugs spill over from lego to battle royale… Hilarious.
They really lost control of the code. No joke.
Thankfully Tim Sweeney kept it off of Linux due to cheating concerns.
MicroSlop is so much better in preventing cheats and hacks. So much better.
Team Fortress 2 players: Your first time?
Red Dead Online players: You mean cheating isn’t the expectation?
Seriously though, RDO had the single worst cheating problem I ever encountered. To the point that the multiplayer was downright unplayable unless you had cheats of your own. People would constantly troll with full-map aimbots, combined with infinite explosive ammo and no reloads. You log in, and your character is immediately taking an explosive bullet to the face on every single frame.
You start in a campsite where you can’t be damaged, but the sheer amount of explosions and particles being forcibly rendered are enough to make lower-end systems immediately lag. And as soon as you step outside of camp, you’ll take damage from those explosive rounds and immediately die. So at the very least, a godmode cheat is necessary just to be able to play the game without instantly dying.
That’s why a game should have Community servers, at least that could help a bit if the company fails to do it. TF2 has community servers and was the savior of the game for many (I didn’t got into that). I didn’t play Red Dead, so cannot speak from personal experience here.
There was a time when TF2 was completely abandoned by Valve, and especially as some source code of the game leaked, the cheaters exploded on official servers. It’s similar to what you describe with RDO. Even blatant spinbots with 100% accuracy of sniper from across one map side to the other… imagine your entire enemy team re snipers sitting at one corner of the map and constantly jump and spin until something hits their way on the other side of the map and gives you 100% headshot instant death. Kick one out, another of them fill the match automatically. Nowadays its better controlled and not that of an issue anymore, when I believe other players.
Surprisingly not much of an issue recently. At least not on community servers.
Even when I used to play pirated call of duty games, the community watched/ran servers did a better job at keeping out hackers than ob the consoles.
Still occasionally jump on world at war, they made their own bots to fill the lobbies and hackers get kicked.
Community-run servers are always the real antidote to cheating. A well-run community server will be on top of cheaters within a day, or at least ensure they don’t cheat overtly.
shooter that runs on Switch
Have you tried splatoon?
Yep, several years ago. Wasn’t my cup of tea at the time. Maybe I’ll give it a second try…
I don’t have any suggestions to fill the void but good on you for trying to stop. Good luck. I hope someone knows just the game for you.
Sounds like advice for an addict… Maybe you’re on to something 🫣 I thank you for your kind words. Have a nice day!
If games could be drugs, that one’s for sure one of the most addictive. Not speaking from personal experience, I just see how people talk about it. Yourself included.
Haven’t played an MP game in over a year. And cheating is a partial reason why …
Yep, do understand that decision. It’s a real pity as the dynamics in multi player is so nicely challenging, something that single player games miss, they become predictable very fast.
Really? The last time I played it was 90% bots, was so boring.
You’re right, it’s the 10% real players that make it interesting - and shitty at the same time.
Are you looking for multiplayer specifically? If not, Borderlands might be a good fit for a fairly casual shooter.
I just started downloading it. Thanks for your suggestion! 🫶
I totally get you. What really helped me was playing a shitton of single player shooters.
Will try that. The dynamics unfortunately are very different from multi player games - single player games get very predictable in short time…
I just went back to the classics, most of which are all free now to play online. the original Quake 3 Arena you can play on pretty much every OS for free now via ioquake3 and there are still a ton of servers for it. the original Unreal Tournament and Unreal Tournament 2004 are both available for free online play now and very easy to set up. I also prefer playing TFC over TF2. also the original HL Deathmatch is still a blast.
I THINK there’s also a free option for Tribes 2 out there but I’m not 100% sure on that.
regarding tribes 2, yep… it is called TribesNEXT (https://www.tribesnext.com/) and iirc it has even populated servers during odd hours
