Hyper focus is a real problem for me. I don’t even realize I’m hungry or that my bladder is full until I’m feeling nauseous or light headed. What feels like 15 minutes is actually hours.
At the same time, if I don’t complete a project from start to finish in one sitting, it’s nearly impossible to restart.
I don’t get basic things done like laundry or remembering to make appointments because I’m stuck on one task. Sometimes I’m afraid to do things I love because I can’t just do it for 20 minutes. Especially video games. I want to relax after work and play but I know I can’t let myself or I might not eat that evening.
I need help getting started. I’m not an idea person. I can make anything you come up with but I can’t come up with the ideas on my own.
I’ve used it for an outline and then I rewrite it with my input.
Also, I used it to generate a basic UI for a project once. I struggle with the design part of programming so I generated a UI and then drew over the top of the images to make what I wanted.
I tried to use Figma but when you’re staring at a blank canvas it doesn’t feel any better.
I don’t think these things are worth the cost of AI ( ethically, financially, socially, environmentally, etc). Theoretically I could partner with someone who is good at that stuff or practice till I felt better about it.
If you like this, you’d like the Dungeon Crawler Carl book series. I highly recommend it.
I felt this way too before I saw a doctor. I would see posts online about it and relate to them, but I knew social media posts can be inaccurate. I knew that that type of thing targets very generic symptoms to attract more interactions.
I thought everyone was tired and stressed like I can be. I spent a lot of time thinking I was lazy or not good enough because I couldn’t get stuff done that seemed easy for other people.
It wasn’t until my partner suggested I talk to my doctor about it because he saw signs.
Honestly, the best thing you can do is talk to a doctor if you feel like symptoms are disrupting your ability to function. If you’re doing fine, you might not need it! But the best thing I ever did was talk to my doctor about this, anxiety, and a potential sleep related disorder (I’m still working on the latter).
I have ADHD and I will hyper fixate on something for 12 hours straight, forgetting to eat or take a bathroom break. I will learn all about it and do it perfectly, but then I will be useless for a day or two, as I lose my car keys in the refrigerator and then remember I went to the grocery store and make a sandwich instead of looking for them.
I don’t mind it, but I also don’t hate that people are trying something new! Maybe it fails, but maybe it’s awesome!
I see a lot of negativity in the comments. And yeah, this thing probably isn’t something I’m going to get, but at least they are trying something that isn’t a generic rectangle of glass like all the others. I miss the days of fun gadgets.
Halt and Catch Fire.
Set in the 80s, it’s about a company in Texas trying to build a computer to rival IBM. Er, that’s how it starts. I liked it so much, I bought it.
I work in commercial real estate. That was a real example. They continue to pay rent so they don’t have to pay termination fees.
And yes, personally I agree they should fail or relocate but that’s not what investors in the property think.
It’s called going dark. Most businesses don’t own their property. So if they stop operating at a location, even if they still pay rent, there are consequences.
Say you own a strip mall with a grocery store. A selling point to getting restaurants and retail on around it is that the grocery is there. If the grocery store stops doing business there, all the other stores lose business.
I don’t agree with it, but that’s how it is.
This is the only thing I leaned in high school chemistry.
My teacher was also the football coach, though.
But does it roll down like Yakuake did before I updated Fedora and broke it? :( That’s all I want.
Agreed. I appreciate the well-thought and out level headed approach lemm.ee has taken.
Actually, for a moment I was annoyed they wouldn’t defederate with a certain offensive instance. But, now, looking back on it, I think they made the right decision. I appreciate that defederation is an extreme tool that shouldn’t be used lightly.
I read somewhere that everyone is bad at their job. When you’re good at your job you get promoted until you stop being good at your job. When you get good again, you get promoted.
I know it’s not exactly true but I like the idea.
Also, it’s really hard to cook for one. I end up spending as much on food that goes bad before I can eat it as it would have cost me to get a $5 value meal.
You’re probably like about the pigs. Technically it was in the metro of a large midwestern city, but it was what I would call the outer edges of the metro and farmland wasn’t far.
I’m sure I’ve seen weirder shit, but right now all I can think of is a literal truckload of bread. I mean a pick-up truck full to the brim with bread just loosely tossed in the back. I do not mean bread packaged in cases. WHY.
It was in a parking lot at a Walmart.
I actually just listened to a podcast about this!
Even plants have a dominate side! It’s usually the right side and there are reasons for that. I won’t try to explain it here. I’m not good at that kind of thing but I’ll link to the podcast below. It’s less than 30 minutes too!

Also, I have two male dogs. I noticed that one always lifts his left leg to pee and the other lifts his right.
