Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•Belgium national team's official social media post after beating the USA national team in the World Cup:"Overturn this"
1·2 months agoActually our team only has 7 players that are from Major League Soccer.
If someone has duel citizenship, isn’t good enough to make the national team where they live, they will definitely be able to make the USA team.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How come if my dog is sick and I take him to get put out of his misery its ok? On a human its not? How come human laws don't apply to animals? I think of our dog as family and he's one of us?
1·5 months agoI’m so sorry, that sounds awful and so so exhausting. One last thing then I will stop promise, it’s a bit annoying when someone keeps trying to fix you. At least I didn’t recommend positive thinking. Like yes Cynthia I’m sure that will cure the cancer, why didn’t I just think of that!
ECT has shown some really fantastic results in treating TRD. I’d recommend reading Shock: The Healing Power of Electroconvulsive Therapy by Kitty Dukakis. If nothing else it is a good read. And thank you. I wish you peace

1·5 months agoThe interesting thing about suicide is that it can be “contagious”. Also being under the influence increases the risk of it, not to mention access to a gun. This is some of the evidence that points to most suicides being an impulsive act. Having a plan already in place to go to the “euthanasia clinic” could curb some of the impulsive suicides. Completely understand the comparison to the stupid abortion clinic ridiculousness. It just seems like there needs to be a way to ensure the people using it are in the statistical group of multiple suicide attempts that end in success.
I’m sorry you feel like you don’t want to be here. I absolutely understand that, there have been many times in my life when I felt the same. I don’t know the right way to say this, but have you tried therapy or medication? Both have helped me at various points in my life, and it is a relief not to feel that way. I say this because it isn’t too late for you. By the time I was truly feeling excited by living, I was diagnosed with a brain tumor. I hope you can find a path to looking forward to being here in the world most of the time.

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•It is a multi-purpose tool
4·5 months agoWe also tried predator scents. You could get just the essential oil, it’s pretty cheap, and put a little bit where they are getting in the house.
If you are rural, it might be why nothing other than poison is working. Deterrents only work if they have somewhere else to go. If your house is surrounded by yummy food fields, yeah you’re the best place to sleep. That sucks, thank you for removing the dead ones, and not using glue traps.

52·5 months agoI agree in theory, but often the desire to end one’s life is often symptom of a treatable disease, or short term situation. Less than 10 percent of people who survive a suicide attempt, latter try again and succeed. There would need to be a lot of safety net in place, just like there is for the terminal.
Honestly I think it could save people. Knowing there is a way out, so to speak, could prevent people from attempts on their own. Not to mention it would prevent traumatizing whoever finds a successful suicide. Needing proof that other treatments are inactive would get even more the help they need.

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•It is a multi-purpose tool
5·5 months agoHave you tried one of those essential diffuser things, and use peppermint. Powerful smells like that “blind” rodents because their main sense is smell. We also couldn’t get the tap dancing chipmunks to get out of the attic. Tried everything, peppermint essential oil worked for us. Tried the things made for rodent repelling that smells, but they don’t really work as well. Lol
Poison can kill nontarget animals, pets, owls, hawks, foxes, etc.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why does postal voting favour the American Democratic Party?
11·6 months agoVoting in cities is crazy. Like hours long wait times, you have to be very determined to vote. In person voting is much easier in less densely populated areas. Cities tend to be more liberal.
telling colleagues that he was “very glad [he] wrote the note” and that Epstein "…was obsessed with girls (like every other unmarried billionaire in Manhattan; in fact, like every other heterosex[ual] male), and if I hadn’t said what I did in that letter ten-odd years ago, he would certainly have called me & asked for a lot more aesthetic detail. (This is how men behave.)
His response to the backlash is insane.

The white chickens are usually for meat, like a cornish cross, and they are typically caged. The one in the video looks to be free range and definitely not a cornish cross.
No they can actually fly, it’s just most birds are encouraged not to by their enclosure. So they simply don’t have the muscles to get much air. If you were to take the time to build up those muscles they would be able to fly.
No, they can actually fly. Chickens bred and kept for meat have trouble flying, but that is because they are too heavy for that very reason. Or they were kept in an enclosure that they could not exercise their wings. They don’t have the muscles to get off the ground. Parrots kept in a too small cage without being let out have the same problem. They could fly if they were allowed to build up those muscles.

Stumbled on this tongue twister in the wild. It’s freaking impossible.
Soldier shoulder surgery.
