This is a pretty negative outlook, and an unhealthy one. If your childhood trauma is impacting your current life, coming to terms with what happened and growing past it is absolutely a valid option. It will take time and personal effort, and you have to want to make the change, but it is possible.

Note that coming to terms doesn’t have to mean playing nice with the people who abused you, or even having any communication with them at all. It just means finding closure, forgiving yourself, and moving forward.

  • The problem is really that people think you need to pay $350,000, but you shouldn’t seriously pay more than $40,000. Higher education as a concept isn’t a scam, but certain schools like the Ivy Leagues and private universities absolutely are. While there certainly are benefits to going to a prestigious school, most public state universities in the United States are excellent and hold good reputation. The quality of education you’ll get at a local state college will only be like 10% worse than Harvard or Yale, but will cost 10x less. There’s also the argument for technical schools or apprenticeships; while potentially more limiting, these also offer a significantly more affordable path of higher education for Americans.

While you won’t necessarily get a bonus or anything for having a degree that aligns with the role you perform at a company, you aren’t getting that job without the degree. College degrees serve as a way to move between the American de jure caste system; you can either work in low-wage jobs that won’t require a degree, or you pursue higher education to get access to the ones that do.

  • Right but take what you just said to it’s logical conclusion. Why should only men have those responsibilities? All you’ve really done is create a different, nicer patriarchy, that still expects men to conform to specific gender roles and still expects women to conform to specific gender roles. Consider the inverse, all the people who physically can’t produce more than they require to survive, who need additional attention or care, through no fault of their own. Can those people not be men?

You’ve described just a generally good person, and realistically you’ve described more women than you have men. The goal should be to get rid of the idea that certain responsibilities are reserved for certain genders completely.

  • You’re watching the collapse of an empire. The citizens are getting desperate and scared, those of them that don’t realize or understand the situation they’re in even moreso. What you’re seeing isn’t driven by malice, it’s just too difficult to care for others now. A lotta my friends struggle to pay rent every month and keep food in their mouths. We walk around with the knowledge a stranger could freak out and gun us down at any moment. Is it any wonder that they are numb to violence, numb to threats, even numb to the fear of death?

Once you get that numb and hollow, you cut what’s extraneous away and focus on your own survival. Americans are, broadly speaking, panicked animals. The worse things get, the more panicked and desperate they’ll become, and the less they’ll care about standards and morals in the pursuit of survival.

  • If I was very desperate and my current job no longer sufficed, sure I’d hop on OnlyFans or FeetFinder and give it a go. The problem I have is more one of laziness. I like showing off my body, and spend a good amount of time cultivating parts like my ass and thighs to look attractive. The limiting factor is that I don’t have anyone to hold a camera. It’s a lot of fun to model, it’s a lot less fun to setup a camera/mic, create a scene, and actually take 30-40 pictures/30 sec vid clips. If I had to do it for survival, I could, but I prefer just sending simple thirst traps to fwb.

  • You’re maybe in the vast minority of normies, but I think a lot of gamers have actually realized how lame Skyrim is. There’s certainly hours long rants on Youtube breaking down each little issue the game has, as well as examining it from the perspective of modern game design and as a failure of the Elder Scrolls brand, but beyond that; is anyone really holding up vanilla Skyrim as the pinnacle of gaming any more? Even Bethesda realized it needs mods to be enjoyable.

  • So the joke here isn’t sampling, it’s the idea of being “featured” on a track. Idk Khaled enough to know if this would be too extreme an example, but imagine a lesser known hiphop artist making nearly 100% of a song. Then Khaled comes in, does a few whoops and hollers, maybe a few bars, but the song ends up on a Khaled album. The lesser known artist is credited as “featured” on the track, even if it was mostly their work.

  • 100% believable and 100% pointless. So much of that money is basically being wasted on their digital art team making technically distinct assets for each game. They all have to be exceptionally high quality, because Call of Duty is a AAA franchise, but do any players actually care if their sniper rifle looks slightly different if the numbers and mechanics are identical?

Feel like all of CoD’s successful competitors have figured out that FPS players don’t really give a shit and will happily play the same client on the same maps with minimal updates year after year, but Acti-Blizz is addicted to reinventing the wheel each time even though they’re reusing the good maps.

  • At least in recent memory, it was Dragon’s Dogma 2 teaching me that I could pick up and carry downed party members by having one of my party members pick up another one and bring them over to me. There’s so much that’s possible in DD2 that just isn’t in a typical videogame, that throughout the entire experience I was mostly learning niche interactions from my other party members instead of my own experimentation. It was a really cool experience, and felt way more impactful then a text prompt just lecturing me about all the mechanics the game has.

  • This is kinda the underlying problem with modern political discourse. One side has gone so far off the deep end that there’s genuinely nothing of value that they are adding to the conversation. “The Jewish Space Lasers are manipulating our weather” just isn’t a position that is worth entertaining.

That being said, it’s still worth reading the literature of the enemy, even if it’s just to know what kinds of ridiculous statements they’re holding as truth. If you don’t know how your opponent’s worldview was constructed, what hope do you have of deconstructing it?
