The term wasn’t about Japanese drivers, it was about Japanese cars. They were called “rice burners” as in they were fueled by rice, not gasoline. I guess that was someone’s joke that became wide spread.

You’re right that it was sort of derogatory to refer to cars that had all their customization on things like giant exhausts, huge wheels, neon lights, rather than performance improvements.

I’ve never heard the term used to refer to the ethnicity of the driver, just the ethnicity of the car, so I don’t think it’s racist, shrug.

But can’t we just call that racism? “Haha, I’m an Indian” is just racist. Making a new term of cultural appropriation then leads to all sorts of things getting that label that aren’t problematic. A lot of it I think actually veers back into racism. Like as a white guy, can I eat, for example, Cherokee dishes? Can I open a Cherokee restaurant? I’m not pretending to be from their culture, I just like the food and think other people would too. If I can’t do these things, you are reinforcing that Cherokees are a different group than all other Americans, which is where racism comes from. Being exposed to other cultures is how you combat racism, that’s why cities tend to be less racist.

I bought mass effect legendary edition from epic last year, it was super cheap and I never played. I finally installed it a couple weeks ago and am playing the first game. It’s a great game, but the drm infrastructure is really frustrating.

To play the game, I need to:

It really makes me think about pirating the other games instead of continuing this bs. Plus I should be able to then play them on Linux instead of needing to boot into Windows to play.

You should always run a full upgrade when installing a new package to make sure your versions are all in sync. Like if your new package is looking for version 1.1 and you have 1.0 installed, the new package won’t work. In general, everything should be installed with ‘pacman -Syu’ not just ‘pacman -S’

If you don’t install any new packages, then no you don’t need to upgrade anything. You’re just missing out on security patches and upgraded features. It’s worth running occasional upgrades.

That happened to me too, but they automatically sent me a replacement. I now had 2 huge rugs, so I just returned one for a refund.

That’s been my assumption when people talk about stomach pain and diarrhea from Taco Bell, Chipotle, Qdoba, etc. I eat plenty of Mexican food at good and bad places and have never had any issues like that. But I also eat a decent amount of beans normally.
