I do not think anyone exists who thinks a government is perfect, but China is very clearly much better in many ways than any western government, and that is the very reason most of the global south looks to China in friendship.

Do you say the same of Microsoft? Or Apple? They both have their own OS. Huawei has 114,000 employees in Research and Development. Microsoft has 77,000. Apple has 166,000 in TOTAL and do not disclose how many are in R&D.

Huawei used AOSP, and Linux as a foundation for earlier versions of Harmony OS, but have since switched over to an entirely bespoke HongMeng kernel.

I’d personally rather it be FOSS but I’m still glad to have any sort of competition in the OS space. It should be normalized that all programs should just have to compile themselves into different versions for all OSes. The more OSes other than Windows we have the more companies will want this. I think Unity game engine already does this where it gives you a Linux, Mac, and Windows executable by default.

But it being closed source makes sense for its usecase too. The Chinese Government want this to be used in government there, just like Windows is in the US, and so they want the code locked down.

If I had to choose what OS to use my order of which ones I’d prefer probably goes:

GNU/Linux

FreeBSD

HarmonyOS

MacOS

Windows

I think the most important thing is that people realize Huawei is not making some Linux distro. They’re not a small or medium sized company. They’re a peer to Apple and Microsoft. An absolute behemoth that can support their own entirely in house software stack+ hardware ecosystem. That’s the real story here.

Probably. I dont feel the need for a word for it tho. It’s not something I think about much. I just do whatever I feel like doing. I hear people talk about things like dysphoria and it just doesn’t compute to me. I’ve never been shot but I can imagine what being shot would be like, right? Can you pay your bills for the next 6 months? If no, figure out how to fix that ASAP.

Do you know what you want to do next? If no, start pondering on it.

Have you taken advantage of any support that is out there for you? Unemployment for example. If no, do it.

If all of those are handled then you are good to take a breath and just figure your shit out. Maybe try to do something you didn’t have the time to before. Spend more time with family. Something like that. Whatever it is that would make you happy right now.

The answer is yes. The people who run businesses like this are genuinely stupid. It’s just true and ubiquitos in the industry. When all these companies are run by old people who don’t know anything about technology this is what happens. I bet they didn’t even know their freezers were vulnerable. Someone probably just told them, “It’s secure.” and they said, “Oh, well in that case we’re fine! Good to know.” They don’t know the difference between internet connected and airgapped systems.

I prefer it personally. I’m not a fan of games where combat is decided by reaction times and is high energy. I prefer to use proper preparation and strategy to win fights. And turn based is best for that. I’m also not a fan of “dice roll” style game mechanics for the same reason. Like Fallout New Vegas’s speech system > Fallout 3’s speech system. Because its based on a set skillcheck instead of a dice roll adjusted by your skill.
