“well baby snoop it’s called adoption” as if they’d have a problem explaining little orphan Annie or Stuart little or any number of adopted children

stevestevesteve@lemmy.worldto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Jellyfin 10.11 RC1 ReleasedEnglish22·4 months agoBasically, yes. Forces plugins not to use potentially database-engine-specific SQL so that server admins don’t have to select their DB based on plugins for jellyfin being compatible.
stevestevesteve@lemmy.worldto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Jellyfin 10.11 RC1 ReleasedEnglish186·4 months agoI kinda agree here. https://jellyfin.org/docs/general/contributing/release-procedure/
Claims to follow semantic versioning, explicitly mentioning changes to plugin APIs as reasoning for a new major version.
The description calling it double gnarly hand gestures is tops
stevestevesteve@lemmy.worldto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Who are some people in powerful positions or 1%ers that are genuinely good people?11·4 months agoI have a benefit of the doubt thing here, not that any billionaire I’ve heard of deserves it. If I suddenly had a billion dollars, would I donate to an existing charity with an administration I don’t know and trust or would I think “hmm I can better choose what happens with this money” and start my own charitable enterprise? Like a bill/Miranda Gates situation.
I know if I had a billion dollars worth of shares of a company I wouldn’t necessarily liquidate it all for philanthropy either. Do I hold onto control of these stocks while attempting to guide the company in a more ethical way? Idk. It’s an interesting thought

God I wish megacorps would stop being morons with NDA nonsense and just open up the possibilities for open source devs to actually use the hardware that’s out there
stevestevesteve@lemmy.worldto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•How many school shootings did US have in 2024?11·10 months agoUnlike other data sources, this information includes gang shootings, domestic violence, shootings at sports games and afterhours school events, suicides, fights that escalate into shootings, and accidents.
Using this wide definition is clearly muddying the waters of what is colloquially known as a school shooting. Those words make people think of uvalde and Columbine, indiscriminately shooting many of the kids. Suicides, accidents, etc are MUCH different and implying they’re the same is actively harming genuine discourse on the topic.
Definitely not ai. This is classic human trying to imitate bad ai
“RTFM” My irritation is that most recipes make a huge amount of assumptions - at least as many as code that assumes a certain version of library. You can get recipes that say things as vague as “prepare the chicken” and aren’t at all clear what they mean, unless you’ve seen someone do it first, but it’s published in a book like you should just know. I hate that. I also frequently see quantities like “1 can” which just drives me insane as though that’s a standard unit.
There’s also plenty of cooking specific jargon, so densely packed that beginners might spend the majority of the recipe looking up what the terms mean. “Chop” parsley - how finely? “Mix the ingredients” how long? What the fuck is Golden Brown actually?
First thought, someone’s gonna nut into that
stevestevesteve@lemmy.worldto Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•I ordered my daughter a pizza, something I don't usually do. I got Domino's smallest size with two toppings. I got her cheese sticks and two sauces and tipped the driver 20%. $31.07.English221·1 year agoI hate how people mix up correlation and causation with JC Penney and it’s couponless trial. The company was ALREADY very much on a fast track to bankruptcy when it decided to try removing coupons - that’s why they tried it. It didn’t make enough of a difference to pull them out of the nosedive they were in.
It’s not that not doing coupons doesn’t work, it just didn’t save a failing business.
stevestevesteve@lemmy.worldto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Have you ever bough an external hardrive only to take the disk out of it?English2·1 year agoThis has been the case since SATA revision 3.3, released Feb 2016. So while I may have exaggerated with “ancient”, a brand new PSU certainly shouldn’t still be feeding 3.3v to that pin.
It’s a gag gift, the implication is that you’d put the tube in your butt.
