  • I am a potential employer. Speaking on behalf of only myself, there are two reasons I may feel inclined to rush an applicant. If the unfilled position is causing hardship on operations or other team members (Like having someone having to fill the spot while I search) or if the intended start date falls towards the end of a current pay period. Because if the new hire doesn’t have paperwork done by then it can slow down payroll for all of us.

I learned very quickly not to rush folks out of desperation, but honestly sometimes that does happen. It doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a terrible place to work. In my case our labor market is lacking viable applicants. It can sometimes take weeks or months before finding even a good interview. If I have somebody that hates overnights, but is working them to cover for a recent loss then you bet I will be motivated to fill the spot ASAP. It takes emotional control to make sure that doesn’t turn into rushing the applicant.

These may not apply to your situation, but that’s my two cents.

  • Just going to stick my reply on the top comment here, but may touch on some of the lower comments to help out.

Answering yes to the question “Are they afraid of possibly having a brief interaction with a neighbor” is going to be unique to the individual. I saw some mention of anxiety disorder down there, and while that may be the case for some, I wouldn’t label myself with that and I see this as a good opportunity to caution against over generalization for these grey areas of life.

For me personally, I have a full time career that primarily involves interacting with people 95% of the time. When I get done working for the day… I’m all interacted out. So yeah I may not enter a room or exit my apartment when I know it’s going to require more social interactions. I’m just tired. It’s honestly easier for me to just wait a couple minutes so that I don’t have to restart my decompression.

  • Could you expand on the gun part like what encourages you to go that route? No judgement in either direction. I’m interested because my concern that I would need to be armed stemmed more from if he lost. Since he would have gotten up there and told his base it was cheating and tried to mobilize them towards violence.

I don’t anticipate that kind of violent behavior from the other side, so just curious on your perspective.
