  • Great job trying to learn! Ignore the naysayers here, as a fellow programmer like it or not, you’re going to need to learn how to interact with it. That’s the real way we’d lose our jobs, if you don’t keep up with this stuff you’re doomed to fall behind.

I recommend trying to first build a simple CLI API that you can work with and ask questions similar to chat gpt. This will give you a good foundation on the APIs and how it works. Then you can move up into function calling for things like HomeAssistant, and then maybe even later training loras. Start small, just getting basic stuff working first, and build from there.

  • Okay so I’m going to answer this with soda. So when people order soda no ice, they think they’re being smart and getting more soda. Well, define soda.

You see, most of those drinks are specifically designed with the ice in mind. All drinks are some sort of mixture with water, and they take ice into account, they expect the ice to melt and become part of the drink. With soda, they made the drink with the ice melting in mind.

So when you order a soda no ice, you’re not getting more soda necessarily, justa. More concentrated sugary syrupy drink that isn’t properly mixed.

  • I use it for parsing through legalese or terms and conditions. IT IS NOT PERFECT. I wouldn’t trust it ever over a lawyer. But it’s great for things like “Is there anything here that is extra unusual or weirdly anti-consumer or very bad for privacy?”. I think it’s great for that.

People here are just “it will take jobs it’s inherently evil”. They said the same about Photoshop, and computers before. I think there are evil uses for it sure, but that doesn’t mean that it has no valid usages

  • Exactly. Even Meta and their thousands of lawyers would immediately say this. How does it harm people? Prove it does. Why are they singled out? They’re just showing content they think is relevant, and I’m guessing they honestly are. It’s that political groups take advantage of that, and make slop that enrages and inflames. But Meta would just say “you can’t punish us for trying to make our platform successful”. A mess all around
