Servers can see the incoming IP address for a request, that is personal data.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•AWS is having a bad dayEnglish
2·1 month agoThat’s honestly just a tin-foil hat sort of take, that entirely relies on planning for an unprecedented AWS outage specifically to screw over customers.

1·1 month agoI would say that’s a pretty minor issue that isn’t related to the functioning of the service itself.

3·1 month agoGovernment’s also shouldn’t be incentivised to always go with the cheapest option during procurements and tenders. Price is not the only factor in a value calculation and it is insane that we just ignore that fact.

4·1 month agoI wouldn’t want my city traffic lights managed by a private company, because they’d try to cut costs and avoid building in redundant systems.
While they aren’t run by private companies, the traffic lights at the entrances to most housing estates are procured and installed by the developer, at least in Australia. Without fail, about 12-24 months later, the red and green LED lights will have half a dozen or more dead pixels on them. Meanwhile, newer LED lights installed by the roads department are still going strong years later.

21·2 months agoIt’s very likely that DNS servers aren’t going to propagate that A name record because of it being an internal IP. What DNS settings are you using for Tailscale? You could also check that the address is resolving locally with the command
host mydomain.tldwhich should returnmydomain.tld has address 192.168.10.20if things are set up correctly.Edit: you can also do a reverse lookup with
host 192.168.10.20which should spit out20.10.168.192.in-addr.arpa domain name pointer mydomain.tld.

123·2 months agoI’d be happy to pay for Infuse if the lifetime wasn’t AU$150, and I just outright reject paying a subscription for an app for using something FOSS, even if it’s only AU$20/year. A lifetime license that’s 3-5yrs of a yearly sub is much more reasonable.

I’d rather pay for search, than to be the product of a search engine. Self-hosting a decent index is much harder than it seems. Kagi aren’t ontologically evil in the same way as Google or Microsoft so I think it’s the best option.
