  • No, the kid’s answer is not “just as right”, it is the correct and expected answer. The teacher’s answer is wrong and proof the teacher doesn’t understand the question. The entire point of the question is understanding that fractions of a whole are relative to that whole and you can’t directly compare fractions from different wholes like that. 5/6 > 4/6 doesn’t mean Luis ate more pizza than Marty, it means Luis ate a larger share of his pizza than Marty ate out of his own.

  • you’ve found out what their opinion on free will and almost every other deep conversation you could have with them in the first few years

I met my wife when we were 16-17. We are in our 40s now. It’s reasonable to expect that our opinions on such subjects have changed since then.

But there are plenty of subjects to talk about. How is the current environment in the US going to impact our kids’ lives going forward? Even if we know each other’s general perspectives on life, the universe, and everything, that doesn’t mean we can also predict opinions on complex scenarios and situations.

  • I have aphantasia. I definitely cannot rotate a cube in my mind. I can with great effort and concentration kind of do what you describe, follow where individual edges and vertices would be in space relative to each other, but normally it would just be the idea in my head “there’s a cube and it’s rotating”.

My go to test for aphantasia goes like this:

    • “Imagine a circle”
    • “OK”
    • “What color is it?”

People always answer with color and many times with a more detailed visual description, like texture, material, the surrounding scene, etc. I personally would very stumped by that question because when asked to imagine a circle, I just imagine the concept of a circle. It has no color, no texture, no substance.

My cat has zero reaction to catnip anyway, so this comic wouldn’t even apply to him. But he does love to play and if we don’t play with him, he’ll find his own play. Find some small paper or plastic thing somewhere and swat them away then chase them. Or pick it up in his mouth and fling it up to then catch in mid flight. Lately we took out one of his older cat toys (a ribbon on a stick basically) and it’s his new favorite toy. He carries it around with him everywhere he goes, including up and down the stairs. And even though he’s over 13 years old, he’s more playful than he was as a kitten.
