Zeschuk nails it, and it lines up with something Nate Hagens talked about on The Great Simplification: a company doesn’t need a single villain at the top to behave like a psychopath, it just needs to be structured so that extraction beats CRAFT every time. That’s what “none of these people have ever made a game” feels like to me. BioWare was built on people who loved the work and took the time it needed; the PIF/private-equity model wants annual sports titles and predictable margins. Hagens’ talks about traits out-competing values, so the people with the values (Zeschuk) walk away from the crucible and the people with the extraction reflex keep hammering forward. We ALL have this SAME problem people… wtf are we going to do about it is the question.

Guy put Postgres on a 5400 rpm laptop drive, wondered why Immich took 24 seconds to load, then “discovered” a $20 SSD fixes it — 95x faster, stop the presses. The rest is him learning that a 100 Mbps Realtek port from 2011 is slow and a dual-core Celeron is bad at math.

100%. Great premise. I will def check it out.

I never get rid of older gaming hardware. Sentimental reasons aside, there may be communities that now or in the future extend functionality of the hardware. So I think it’s worth hanging onto. We have the Zelda oled… it looks super cool too!

As someone who has played seemless coop for multiple games… I welcome any of this type of work. Ty.

Great call out on the irony. So true. Welcome to the future.

This is good EU related info. Ugh - now I’m going to spend the time thinking about this. Good info though TY. I use proton mail btw … but I’m considering running my own mail server again for non essential domains I own.

Interesting. And yes, I agree there are games coming out with great mechanics … but also games coming out with exploitative mechanics.

In this case, at least the lazy slop would be free. We already get lazy slop that is dull and uninteresting from game studios that expect us to pay for it.

I had a long convo with my buddy yesterday about something like this… he mentioned a Mario character playing in Elden Ring. So, I believe people are excited for a new gaming era… one of any possibilities. IMO, the gaming community has ensured some really cruddy game mechanics thrust upon everyone… maybe this will help mitigate those hostile decisions?
