I’m just waiting for some RTO’d workers to be told they’re being mass laid off, and instead they just beat the manager to death. The irony of it only being possible because they were forced back into the office will be delicious.

7·6 days agoI remember being impressed when an NPC commented on how I wore combat armor to a clandestine meeting. There were a lot of little touches that were nice.

81·8 days agoThe people at work who use AI the most know the least. They add very little value. AI is rather anti-labor in that way.
I’d also rather have some people who are slow and competent than fast and hallucinating
I think a lot about the job I didn’t get last year. Technical interview was trivial. They said I did very well in the system design. But they ultimately went with someone “more cross functional”. What the fuck does that even mean?
I think it’s just code for “dunno we like the other guy’s vibe better”.

Your first (only?) job is to service the emotional needs of the employer
This is mostly true even after you get hired. Most people are just large children with poorly managed emotions. It doesn’t matter if you’re right. It matters if your boss feels good.
A lot of HR people are incompetent. Recruiters, too. And when you give incompetent people AI tools it’s a big multiplier of their incompetence.
I don’t understand why so many places still have non-technical people reading technical resumes.

11·14 days agoThought the last frame was going to be pouring the hot oil on the landlord. I guess this is fine, too.
“Please run the formatter so the checks pass on the PR” is a perfectly fine and polite statement. Some people act like they’re being attacked.
or they think I’m challenging them in some way
Admittedly, there is a bit of
Them: “It works”
Me: “I don’t believe you. Prove it”
that people might not like. But usually the people who take the most offense are the worst coders.
I don’t understand why people dislike tests. They don’t take that long and you need to check things anyway.
Well, I say that, and then I think of my coworkers that don’t write tests and also push up code with syntax errors. Code that they clearly never even ran themselves.

5·19 days agoI realized the other day that I don’t have a solid count. A friend of mine revealed they have a document with a line item for everyone they’ve slept with and a brief summary.
I’d guess it could reasonably round to 100, though.

Games@lemmy.world•FINAL FANTASY VII REVELATION - Reveal TrailerEnglish
11·19 days agoOh good. I thought Sony had their head up their ass and were going to do a PlayStation exclusive.
Meh trailer, but I’ll probably pick up the game eventually. I didn’t love the story changes in the second game, so I’m prepared to hate this ending. But maybe it’ll be good!
Several thousand hours in gw2. Really liked it.
I hope they keep the stuff I liked. Solo friendly but other people are around to casually join up or whatever. No level grinding. No gear grind.
A prequel seems like it would be unnecessarily putting themselves in a narrative box.
It would be far more interesting to me to either do a time jump forward, or go someplace else. They have the mists in the setting already to explore.
It helps that I’m absolutely not a picky eater. Rice. Beans. Whatever random spices speak to me. Done. Content.

I try to prioritize the rare thing. Friends meeting up to play Frisbee in the park? Hades2 will be here when I get back. Let’s go.
But I’m also kind of a cheapskate, so if they were like “let’s go to this fancy dinner and then a cocktail bar” I’d probably skip. Luckily most of my friends don’t really have expensive tastes. $6 beer at the local bar, maybe a hangout where we bring $10-20 of snacks and drinks.
