I’m a daily driver of Bazzite and Bluefin. I felt this way initially but it’s been generally painless. I typically check flatpak -> app image -> homebrew -> distrobox when I need something. If that fails, I use rpm-ostree and reboot.
I work in development/devops/infosec by trade and to date there hasn’t been a single package or program that I needed that I couldn’t get running with minimal fuss. I’ve even run a couple of MDM packages that my work requires.

Over time: probably Contra on the NES, Tetris and Bionic Commando on the GameBoy, Operation Wolf and Sinistar in the arcade. DOOM, Duke3d, and XEvil on the PC. CS 1.6 and CS:S in college. The Gears series on the 360.
Then I had a decade or so gaming drought. More recently: Batsugun, Ketsui (Deathtiny and Death Label), Danmaku Unlimited 3, and Battlefield 2042.
5·2 months agoi agree with your points but wanted to mention that binding arbitration is bullshittery that most large companies do by default these days. sign a cell phone contract, streaming/cable service, utility bill, whatever. there’s probably an arbitration clause right in the fine print.
Bazzite for personal stuff because it looked neat and just worked after installation with a small learning curve. Due to interia I went with bluefin on the work computer for the same reasons
Dual booting may be the way to go. Sure Steam, Proton, blah blah but there are so many other launchers and AAA games that are not going to be supported at all (or at least not without a bunch of fiddling). For my own kid, I gave up on Linux ages ago and they have a Wintendo now. I have been daily driving Linux since the mid 90s but I’m also practical when I need to be.
That machine is also isolated on its own VLAN to hopefully reduce the blast radius of whatever garbage it eventually detonates. I make regular backups of it and am ready to repave it at a moment’s notice.

Bazzite, perhaps? I don’t have the dongle but all of my controllers have worked with it out of the box and I have a couple weird ones. It’s gaming focused so you might have some luck with it.

Kept my parents’ desktop running for 14 years with Debian, XFCE, and the occasional hardware replacement. Maybe a bit of a PC of Theseus scenario but it worked pretty great.
What about Extraneum? It’s cute as a button and very chill with plenty of things to shoot. It feels a bit like a modern wolfenstein since there aren’t any stairs. Gunplay feels nice and the secrets are rewarding. Plus between levels there are funny data discs to read.

This was my experience on the Xbox. Absolutely loved the campaign. Could not get a feel for how to survive mp after a few hours. There was a prolonged respawn and die nearly immediately loop. I uninstalled it after I got what I could from the campaign.

I’ve got a little MSI box with 16GB of RAM, 500GB SSD, and a quad core i3 running Proxmox. Home Assistant is in its own VM, I have a VM for a bastion host/jump box of sorts for a client’s network (yes, I know VPNs exist), and then a VM running a few Docker containers: CheckMK, Dozzle, Uptime Kuma, and The TP-Link Omada Controller software. I intend to migrate those to Podman eventually.
On my desktop in Podman, I’m running Dashy, Redlib, and Dozzle regularly. Sometimes I run other services but those are pretty persistent. I use Podman on my local machine for my development work and it’s just handy to have Redlib and Dashy right here.
I tend to interact with things via SSH unless it’s a webshit.
How long before Nintendo slaps a DMCA on this one?
you folks are still scrimbling? hacker news says you can get much better results if you dronkle instead. in fact, you don’t even have to worry about your implementation, just use the kneeb.io api for all of your dronkling (and scrimbling i guess via their legacy api deprecated last month). they just got seed funding and they reinvested that into their infrastructure. this is a no brainer!
