Half the time my IP is messed up anyway, because whenever I use the Safari browser, it goes random places. Which I always forget when doing speed tests and then freak out because I think the speed is off (but it’s really Apple’s MITM network that is maxing out under a gigabit).

So no, I don’t use a lot of those features. But having to go to $10/mo for unlimited searches is laughable pricing, IMHO. Even $5 for 300 searches is ridiculous. That’s basically a week of searches?

I respect the idea of it, but my feeling is that they will never grow the business past a very niche offering if that is how they’re going to price it. And I say that as a very privacy oriented person.

Isn’t Kagi pretty expensive though? When I tested it vs Brave and DDG, I was basically unimpressed to the point where anything more than a buck a month seems out of line. (I can’t even remember what they actually wanted, just that it seemed like a lot more than that.)

Yep. Maybe it could actually be “modules” that the individual devs submit with their game, essentially.

Current DLSS intent: We can only render this at like 720p with enough frames, so let’s do that and use AI anti-aliasing tricks so that when we present it at 4k, none of the jaggies are visible on-screen like they would be with raw 720p upscaling.

DLSS5 intent: Using our pile of stolen artwork neural net that we can now render at 60fps+ let’s “reimagine” the entire look of the game as we present it on-screen, even if it was already running at 4k just fine.

TLDR; How big the neuralnet is and what your train it for matters.

This was definitely something I predicted like a year or so ago. Richard Burns Rally will continue to be the default rally sim, but they will never bother to update the 2004 game engine. Rather at some point, AI will literally start MITM capturing all the 2004 graphical output and converting it to photorealistic modern graphics that are output to your screen instead.

EDIT: But yeah, this is such a “fuck your game, fuck your artistic intention, eat our AI slop and like it!”

And last I checked (but it’s been a few years) you could easily buy a “salvage” SN on eBay for like $15.

No offense but with the number of random processes running on any given machine, I am in no way gonna trust a mission critical app to work right from a pirate site and not load something extra like a keylogger. Hell it barely works right in a fully legal install…

Also, I used to strongly advocate switching off Creative Cloud to Affinity to own the software but I have this horrible feeling that they may be going either subscription or AI slop or both on the 30th and you can no longer buy version 2.

(And I say that as a long-time Adobe stockholder from back before they went pure evil with Creative Cloud.)

I mean I don’t have the amount of time necessary to go into how dirty past presidents have been and I certainly don’t have the knowledge at my fingertips. But also, I think the stuff like Watergate and Monica Lewinski is barely a blip on the chart when you put Trump on it too. Which is not to say I condone the behavior of those presidents or seek to normalize their behavior. Just that from a numerical perspective it barely registers.

Like an order of magnitude worse?

• No sitting president before him has been a convicted felon.
• No sitting president before him has been involved in the sheer volume of sexual scandals from assault to cheating to being implicated in possible pedophilia.
• No sitting president before him has refused to return literally boxes and boxes of classified documents which he kept as trophies (or possibly as items for sale) while storing them in extremely inappropriate ways. (This is extremely different from Biden, btw, who promptly returned a few accidentally retained documents. Trump was playing shell games with them, repeatedly swearing he had returned them all while doing things like loading them on planes to move to other locations, etc.)
• No sitting president before him has attempted to overthrow the government when they lost an election.
• The level of bribery and corruption in his administration is off the charts.
• The number of lies he tells has always been off the charts. (“I’ve never heard of Project 2025!” while having given a speech to its members and now following its plans to dismantle the federal government.)
• His department heads have all been picked to dismantle the departments they’re in. (Project 2025 again)

And then of course there is the christofascism angle, which is extremely disturbing because he definitely plans to never leave power again. He’s currently trying hard to normalize use of military force against US citizens so he can seize control of the elections to make sure they go his way.

You have to have set something up differently from me because on my machines it was a separate install from everything else down at the bottom of the updates page. And yes I did it. No major issues so far, although I wouldn’t have jumped in for a long old time if I still used Adobe products regularly.

It is always hilarious and strange to see the buy-in on these things. We have a single coder in his late 60s that has bought in hard to spicy autocorrect. Meanwhile, the youngest on our team (like 22) won’t touch it with a 10 ft pole.

The other issue is just the morality of it. Do I know people that got rich on Bitcoin? Yes. Do I feel like they’re participating in a pyramid scheme still? Also yes. And with spicy autocorrect, where they got their training data for any and all of these models is so freaking morally bankrupt, and they’re desperate to paper over that and make it “ok” for businesses to use it.

It exists because too many idiots turn it on, forget about it and then drive along for another 5 miles signalling a turn they’re never going to make and confusing everyone around them. Personally, I’d much rather someone signal for “too short” an amount of time than have this happen.

And I think on some cars I’ve had in the past, it was only 2 times even.

Service as a subscription, for me. It used to be you bought a product and then you owned it. Now if you want practically anything from streaming media to freaking car washes, you have to “subscribe”.
