It’s hyperbole for the most part. Only time I’ve ever seen lines longer than 5 minutes is in cases where pumps are out of order. Also most cars nowadays have stop-start batteries so you’re not idling much of the time.

Gaming@lemmy.ml•Should have gotten that 3% interest mortgage back in the day.English
12·5 days agoCalculating that: it’s about $1300/month, in 1996 dollars, which with inflation would be $2600 today. And you almost certainly refinanced in the 2000s when interest rates dropped like a stone. This is what my parents paid for the same neighborhood I live in.
Mine is $3600 and I “lucked out” with a 2.65% interest rate. The difference is mostly because the home values increased 10x in that time (vs. the 2x of inflation).

20·18 days agoThis is why AI coding is being pushed so hard. Guess what’s great at piling on at 30x speed? If piling on is all companies appreciate then that’s what they’ll demand.
Where might one uh…downgrade their video card? I imagine certain websites out there might be a guide?

34·25 days agoCosts have been dropping by a factor of 3 per year, but token use increased 40x over the same period. So while the efficiency is contributing a bit to the use, the use is exploding even faster.

You laugh now, but just wait until the national Waffle House teleportation network becomes a ubiquitous public service we can’t live without
