Have you never heard of such a concept? Some people do it because they are going camping or in case the water goes out in a storm or rarely if the water from the tap is of dubious quality.

Is the infuriating part supposed to be that someone got to the butter before you? Or is it that you don’t like how it was scooped? What is the “correct” way if this is “incorrect”? Genuinely curious.

3·3 days agoYeah I suspect it is something benign but similar like that. Problem is that I really don’t know that I have a way to know for sure. And anecdotally, my recurrent stomach issues significantly reduced once I stopped drinking my tap water. Mine smells like pond water tho instead of garlic lol.
No, it’s not my water heater. I had it replaced and the new heater smelled the exact same even when brand new before any possible sediment accumulation.

4·4 days agoMy tap water goes through months of smelling funny at a time where I get nervous that it is unsafe to drink. I thought about buying a filter for the tap like a Brita filter or something…but my (admittedly very minimal) research showed that these only filter out things like mineral contaminants. Bacteria and other pathogens don’t seem to get filtered out by most standard filters that people are using. It’s just that they filter out the hard water.
What do you use?

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•When will the all white home with grey floors trend be over?English
10·5 days agoI definitely feel the same. For years I had watched hone renovation shows with my mom and they looked nice but at the end they started to feel all soulless. Stumbled into this one home reno show several years back that was totally different. I was practically in awe…colors, wood tones, reasonably priced remodels! Idk if the show is still like that or not, but it really felt like a breath of fresh air.
I’m a Millennial, so I get that this stuff has been trending with people my age for the past decade or so, but I’ve just not been into it either.
Needed to buy a car several years ago and I went out of my way to try to find a car with a COLOR. It was a bit more of a hassle, but I’m glad I did.

I do think it looks pretty cool…but what about washing your hands? That’s the main issue with it I’d think.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How do I drink more water?English
11·3 months agoOP, are you sure you are actually dehydrated? Are you getting kidney stones?
Most people don’t need to actively concentrate on drinking liquids. Your body will tell you when you’re thirsty. It’s a weird internet fad where people try to drink like a gallon of water a day. It’s not necessary. Your body tells you when it’s hungry and it tells you when you need to drink liquids. You’re not going to die from failure of the body signaling you to eat or drink.
Now, if you’ve had kidney stones, your doctor may tell you that you need to be drinking more water.
Beyond that, excessive water drinking is just the latest fad right now. It’s not necessary.

2·3 months agoThey cut all skin cancers out from your skin (well… barring some exceptions for very unusual types of cases). It’s just that melanoma often spread to other parts of your body quickly, which is why it is so deadly. But it still is standard practice to excise the portion that is visible on the skin surface.
One thing to note is that even the report you get after surgery says that all of the tumor was excised properly, it does NOT mean all of the cancer is necessarily gone, just that the one tumor was removed from that one area of your skin. You can have suspected or unsuspected spread elsewhere.
Idk if that makes any sense. I get these cases as part of my job which is both interesting and also terrifying at how readily they spread. But idk that I can explain well.

2·3 months agoI really don’t even think you need to go that far. All you need is a paper towel dispenser and a trash can next to the door. OR a door that pushes out when you’re inside, like you said.
But you don’t even need both of these, just one. My favorite is the latter.
Hands free sink and soap is nice, but unnecessary.

2·3 months agoI will give you that. I definitely am on board with that. People love to link pop sci articles with dramatic headlines, but the reality often isn’t as dramatic. Pop sci articles definitely are one of my pet peeves. People will be like “cure for cancer found!” when in reality it’s just some sort of in vitro testing that destroyed cells. Cancer cells are also killed by bleach and fire, but those aren’t helpful for its treatment in humans lol.
So I get it lol. I guess I was just playing devil’s advocate for a moment.

51·3 months agoGenerally, surgery for melanoma is not very hardcore. Since we’re talking about the skin, they just cut out the area. It’s not a complicated procedure and is the standard treatment for melanoma.
Cancer treatments often gave multiple components to them. Ex: someone gets chemo and then surgery as part of a standard for certain types of cancers at certain stages.
It wouldn’t make any sense for someone to get this vaccine and for them to leave the cancer on the patient.
This is huge news, contrary to what you say. Melanoma has a crazy mortality rate. Cutting it in half is a huge success.
Is it affordable yet? Clearly not. But that doesn’t mean that it can’t get there eventually.
I work a physical/tactile job in healthcare. My job won’t be in danger until robotics dramatically advance and cheapen. AI could conceptually do my job, but the physicality is missing. A lot of healthcare careers are this way. Not all of them are though, so be wise in your choice!

What I’m getting at is these large plastic jugs of water are not just purchased routinely by the majority of the population when grocery shopping.
