Latin is used BECAUSE it is dead. It means the terms don’t drift. It also lets the names/terms be a descriptive as necessary.

Asking a doctor to memorise some Latin words is a lot easier and less error prone than a sea of acronyms.

I think the downvotes are due to the “perfect is the enemy of good” argument they inadvertently make. I.e. because it’s not also collecting micro plastics, it’s not worth doing. It’s likely not intentional, but it’s a rapid killer of good, new ideas.

As for the micro plastics issue. The only viable way is to design/breed an organism (or organisms) that can consume and digest the plastics. A genetically modified krill might be able to do it, if not, bacteria.

It’s a massive challenge however. Not least proving that it’s safe. Once it’s loose in the oceans, putting that genie back in the bottle will be difficult.

That would make sense. Unfortunately, first class is at the front, and that boards first. It sort of flows from there.

I’ve also seen enough people abusing the overhead lockers to completely break back to front boarding. They get on and just stick their bag in the first available space, before heading back. Now, when the people at the front board, their bag space is taken up already. They now have to fight to the back, on landing to get their bags.

It can, actually be done. It’s just inefficient and requires too much trust.

You either do a general broadcast of power. This is incredibly inefficient, at any real range. To get power to the edges, the power near the transmitter will likely be enough to cook your cat.

The other method is directed. You basically put out a power beam that improves efficiency. Unfortunately, you also now have a directable energy weapon in your living room. I wouldn’t trust something capable of cooking my brain, while I’m sat on the sofa, if it gets hacked.

Neither are likely viable for general use, though both could be useful under certain conditions.

I’ll check it out, next time I get a chance to fire it up. Unfortunately, I hate the teleport mechanism of vr games. I love hurtling through the water. Unfortunately, that also makes me motion sickness. I’m slowly training myself out of it, but it takes time.

It depends how often you drive without the kids.

If you don’t always drop the kids off yourself, it’s easy to get half way to work on autopilot before realising you meant to drop them off.

Sleep deprivation is a weird thing.

As a parent myself, I’m now doubly amazed at how few cases of forgetting happen. It’s so easy to do, and your brain is reduced to blomonge by sleep deprivation.

FYI, the “baby on board” signs aren’t generally meant as “don’t crash into me” signs, but “assume the driver is drunk and distracted” signs. Having been there, I try and give them plenty of space!

It was even worse than that.

They were basically given the KSP1 codebase and told to rewrite it to be better. However, KSP1 was still being developed, and they didn’t want to demotivate the KSP1 team. Therefore they were banned from even telling them it existed, let alone ask for help or advice with the existing codebase.

I want to love it in VR. It’s taking me a long time to train my stomach to accept it however. It gives me SERIOUS motion sickness in VR.

That phase does end. The various vehicles allowed for exploration without returning to the surface, as do deep sea bases.

As an aspie, we still flirt. We just (sometimes) flirt differently.

There’s a rubber seal inside the lid that stops them leaking. The milk etc can get behind it, where normal washing won’t get. It can get funky if you don’t clean it out.

Parenting mostly isn’t that hard. You just have to keep all the proverbial plates spinning. Unfortunately there are FAR more than you expect, and you never get a break. You will miss some, then beat yourself up for missing something so simple.

It likely won’t help, though it depends on the source of the brain fog. ADHD drugs are aimed particularly at the areas of the brain associated with executive functioning. Under stimulation here can cause brain fog, among other symptoms. Critically, the body’s homeostasis system wants to boost things, but can’t. It doesn’t fight the boost from the drugs, at least in the under stimulated areas.

If the brain fog is sourced elsewhere in the brain then the amphetamines won’t help much. Even worse, a normal Brian will adapt to counter the drugs effect, causing physical addiction. You would need to constantly increase the dose to gain the same effect. That’s the reason ADHD drugs are controlled substances in most countries. People chase the dragon, and end up nuking their brain with too high a dose.

Basically, don’t do it without medical oversight.

I always assumed it was a hold over from a rodent-like ancestor. Stick your nose out of a barrow, and you want to clear it to get a good sniff of the environment.

It’s definitely one of those effects that confuses people. If you don’t do it, it seems weird as hell. If you do, it seems weird that some people don’t get it.

I have something similar. I have to push, extremely hard, mentally. Even then the resultant visualization is weak and fuzzy.

In my mind, the concept and the image are decoupled. I have the concept of an apple. A viewed apple can be matched to it for comparisons. That concept includes all variants. Red, green, yellow, small, large, bpy or smooth. It also doesn’t have a view direction built in.

It’s a bit like how you can still recognise a cat, when seen from below. You might never have seen it like that, but your model of “catness” includes it. You can mentally render it and compare. My brain just drops the rendering stage as useless fluff.

That’s common in the UK as well, though mostly in the cheaper supermarkets. A lot of places rely on the honour system, and convenient drop off places.

I’m of the mindset that you can judge a society quite well by how they deal with shopping trollies.

I’ve noticed that people often put in near minimum acceptable effort to go optional tasks. The trick seems to be to make the easiest “acceptable” solution, to be an acceptable one.

Shopping carts are another example. The perfect solution is for people to return them to the front of the store. But that’s too much effort for many. They leave them wherever they can dump it. An acceptable one is to return them to collection points. It’s not optimal, but it’s better, and most people will actually do it.

It depends on the reliability.

If you announce it, there are often counter measures to the counter measures. Once the enemy knows, the reliability begins to degrade. E.g. mirror finishes can disperse laser strikes, jinking can doge orbital rail guns, or dummy submunitions can overwhelm interceptor shields. Yes, these can be countered in turn, but you now have a new technological arms race.

There’s also the first strike problem. If you are going to be invulnerable, then a first strike might be reasonable, before the system comes online. This was actually part of the reason the “Slam” project was stopped (a viable, but utterly batshit insane weapon system). They were worried that if the USSR got wind of it, they might decide a first strike, before it came online, was the only reasonable response.

It could be argued that the government “owns” the whole country. It gives you unlimited use, for a 1 time fee. The existence of property laws, property taxes, and eminent domain implying this.

It depends on how pedantic the vampire is about it.
