I mean, I suppose so. I can imagine a theoretical AI that isn’t trained on stolen work, isn’t insanely energy intensive, isn’t controlled by the ownership class, and doesn’t hallucinate wildly. But that’s so far away from what AI is in our current context, drawing that distinction feels like losing the forest for the trees, at this point in time.

Nope, you are correct! From the Wikipedia page, which cites the standards document:

    • Representations can be done in one of two formats – a basic format with a minimal number of separators or an extended formatwith separators added to enhance human readability. The standard notes that “The basic format should be avoided in plain text.” The separator used between date values (year, month, week, and day) is the hyphen, while the colon is used as the separator between time values (hours, minutes, and seconds). For example, the 6th day of the 1st month of the year 2009 may be written as “2009-01-06” in the extended format or as “20090106” in the basic format without ambiguity.

The solutions look a lot different for the real loneliness epidemic than a “male loneliness epidemic”. You fix the first by creating more walkable cities, more third places you can be without needing to spend money, and giving people the time and money they need to go out, do things, and socialize.

The proposed solutions for the “male loneliness epidemic” seem to be a lot more like shitty men saying “women need to lower their standards and be okay with being my therapist/mom/girlfriend, while I change nothing about myself”

  • Accounting. The advice given to me when I went to college was “major in something ‘practical’ and minor in what you love”. I think that was good advice. That way you end up with in-demand skills and a solid fallback, but by doing minors and extra certificates, you get to spend time learning things you’re passionate about, and you can demonstrate to future employers that you are well-rounded and adaptable.
