It’s classification AI not generative AI. Basically smart tagging. And it’s optional. Super helpful though and runs locally on your machine.

16·2 months agoWhen I managed our compost as a kid growing up, we composted the stickers and they would break down faster then egg shells or cofee grounds. But that was 20 years ago and in the US.

Games@lemmy.world•Sliced off the tip of my thumb, what are some good one handed games?English
17·3 months agoJust about anything that is turn based. Board games ports, Roguelike games like Balatro, Slay the Spire, 9 Kings. Civilization games and Civ-likes. You can even play ttrpg ports like Baldur’s Gate and Divinity but it might be a little annoying without an RPG mouse. I played a lot of Civ when my left arm was paralyzed then weirdly Wii tennis after surgery.
Empathy exists in humans on a spectrum. Different people have different priorities. Accepting these 2 truths explains a lot of human behavior and history.

Factorio never goes on sale, but Shapez and shapez 2 are on sale and they are in the same genre but more beginner friendly.
At this point I think Facebook messenger and internet explorer are the only ones that don’t support it. Oh and maybe the ISS.
WebP has all the functionality of jpg, png, and gif while still being a smaller filesize. It has baseline support across browsers and devices. I’m no Google simp and work to de-google my family and workplace but this is a hill I will die on. Webp currently the best image file format.
When I moved from the US to NZ I got way superior service then I’d ever had in the US and attempted tipping a “por boir” but they refused it and said if I really felt like giving extra they had a charity I could give to.
Unfortunately I have started seeing tips being asked for by POS in Sydney and Auckland and it made me mad and sad.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Do you guys just have flawless experiences or what?
3·5 months agoAlso, most the things people complain about Windows are only in Home or Student. I mostly use Pro or Server and those are super reliable.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Do you guys just have flawless experiences or what?
4·5 months agoLong time Windows user tried switching over to various Linux distros recently but 12 of them couldn’t find drivers for my wireless card, ethernet, bluwtooth radio, or GPU. After 80 hours finally got to the point where I could sign in (mint Cinnamon) but it thinks my ethernet is wifi, wifi and bluwtooth don’t work, the GPU usage is buggy, only uses 4gb of my 128gb of ram, uses way more CPU then it should and randomly freezes. Oh and it won’t recognize my USB 3.0+ ports, only the 2.0 I’ve spent over 200 hours since trying to debug why to no avail. And none of my games run properly, even with Proton or Wine. They stutter, freeze crash, or spaz out.
There’s a lot of people here saying that you just need to learn Linux, but I don’t want to have to learn how to write my own hardware drivers thank you very much.
I can get fresh Windows installed, fully functioning with all the software I want in about an hour with full performance. Meanwhile after 300 hours with Linux I’ve turned a $5000 desktop into the functionality of a $200 chromebook.

When you push something you push the atoms in the thing. This in turn pushes the adjacent atoms, when push the adjacent atoms all the way down the line. Very much like pushing water in the bathtub, it ripples down the line. The speed at which atoms propogate this ripple is the speed of sound. In air this is roughly 700mph, but as the substance gets harder* it gets faster. For example, aluminum and steel it is about 11,000mph. That’s why there’s a movie trope about putting your ear to the railroad line to hear the train.
If you are talking about something magically hard then I suppose the speed of sound in that material could approach the speed of light, but still not surpass it. Nothing with mass may travel the speed of light, not even an electron, let alone nuclei.

2·1 year agoI didn’t know they had inport taxes on desktops. Thanks for the heads up.
In my experience, typically import taxes are there to try and encourage buying local. Does New Zealand manufacturer their own electronics, or is this import tax just a way to levy money? Or is it to reduce environmental impact?

New Zealand has good QoL but does have issues with inequality with the Maori (original Polynesian settlers). They are strict about immigration which tries to help reduce immigrant inequality. Australia has better economic QoL, but there is no wildlife in NZ that will kill you.
