I dont mind windows personally(from a usability standpoint, the spyware aspect worries me). And WSL has not caused me any issues in my dev environment.

Its freak in the sheets… its supposed to ryme… this broke me today.
“No pain, no increase”
Hes even a rapper. WTH…
This isnt a windows issue, its a company policy issue. If developers dont have full admin rights on their systems, its a failure of managment. If you cant trust your developers enough to give them admin rights, thats not a co worker i want to be around.
This sounds more like IT babysitting.
If IT cant trust software engineers to have full admin rights on a work computer, either the calibur of your co workers is so bad that no one should want to work there, or the IT department has such a god complex, no one should want to work there.
WSL has worked fine for me for the past 4 years.
If more than 50% of the people in the us keep voting for war mongers, its not really “overwhelmingly unpopular”. Its just full of people who say they dont like it, but vote for it anyway. So they are either cognitive idiots, or hypocrites.

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•I was on social media before web browsers existed. I am Legion.
11·17 days agoI have a 5 digit steam ID, made on the 3rd day steam existed. Back when we all hated the concept of it.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Earbud question: Does anyone actually like to silicone tipped earbuds over the solid plastic ones?
1·26 days agoThere was a company that did hybrid tips. Memory foam but with silicone outer shell. This made them stay clean, while also blocking sound and great fit. But the ones I bought are no longer available and I have not yet found a replacement.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•When does investing become gambling?
5·2 years agoI do t consider bonds or CDs as gambling. They are guaranteed unless the entire financial institution dies, in which case your investment in ammo matters more than money.
Im doing the same… but its so tempting…

Memes@lemmy.ml•Lemmy isn't what I expected but I love this place
5·2 years agoLove the star trek memes. And like all things linux, i understand like 20% and the rest goes over my head
Yep, it just was better regulated in the recent past. It wasnt always much better, the great depression era was arguably worse. It only took 20 years and a world war to pull us out.

Memes@lemmy.ml•I value this meme at eleventy billion and won't take a cent less
74·2 years agoThe problem IS the centralized authority. Can you forever trust a government to not artificially inflate or deflate the value of a currency? The whole point was to have a system with no single authority. No single point of failure.
It is, however, not perfect. The volatility, limited number of transacrions per second , and reliance on an incredible amount of energy expense were the largest of these when the original bitcoin concept was created. Some of these issues have solutions, but its still an evolving technology.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•do you think the framework laptop is a good long term investment?
82·2 years agoThere is one main difference in this comparison. If you upgrade your desktop consistently, those old parts are valuable on the used market, which can make the upgrades more affordable. Used laptop parts are less desirable due to their inoperability.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What is a popular book that everyone buys but nobody reads?
5·2 years agoI read it in school, but honestly did not find it to be all that special. Its a good book, but its message was pretty simple and i think modern audiences would agree with the premise immediately.
I found “The Catcher in the Rye” to be the most thought-provoking of high schools books. However, i dont think it really would improve society if more people read it.
If i could think of a book everyone should read to improve humanity, it would have to be something akin to either statistics for dummies, moral philosophy for dummies, or wealth management for dummies.

Im in firmware. IDEs change often depending on the chip i am working with. In some cases, the tools are better on windows, or have been in the past. It has gotten alot better recently.
