Giving you contradictory orders is standard operating procedure for cops whenever they need an excuse to abuse or kill you.

    “Get on the ground!”

    “Don’t move!”

“I SAID GET ON THE GROUND!”

    “I SAID DON’T F*CKING MOVE!”

“Disperse or you’ll be fired upon!”

Kettles (concentrates) protestors into a small area and keeps them from dispersing.

“The good of the people” is a noble goal. The problem is that for the most part, people who deliberately seek power to lead these groups are vain, greedy, selfish, brutal assholes.

Collectivism, as Karl Marx wrote it, has never been practiced in any so-called “communist” country on Earth. It’s always been an oligarchy.

This. Also, whatever is going on in China and Russia is NOT “communism.” Those are oligarchies, where a small number of billionaires use the news media to keep the lower and middle classes fighting with each other, while the rich keep running off with all the f*cking money.

TikTok is owned by ByteDance, which is a front for the Chinese Communist Party. It’s being used by the CCP to spread agit-prop and self-destructive crap.

Other countries use their “social media platforms” the same way, but that’s no reason to make it easy for other governments to destabilize your society.

There’s currently about 600 lemmy instances, in many different countries, and those countries each have different laws regarding the protection of speech. Some of it is also just power-tripping mods or left-wing / right-wing censorship.

If this is happening to a community you like, you can always switch to the same community in a different instance. Eventually, the “official” community will have the most subscribers and the community with the censorship problems will wither and die.
