  • I mean, yeah. It goes far beyond just Britain and France though. They want you to forget about the military dictatorships they upheld in Spain and South Korea too. They also want you to forget that the fascist Empire of Japan killed far more people during world war 2 than any other nation, and by most counts actually killed more people by themselves than was killed in the European theater entirely. They slaughtered entire nations.

And then you can talk about the American actions that ended the pacific war. The atrocities committed by both America and Japan on occupied nations. It’s a mess. Both of those states committed a littany of horrific acts of violence on millions of people. There is no good side or bad side. Only the side that surrendered.

History is this way for the most part. It’s deeply unsatisfying. But the lie was that there are any good wars to begin with. We only regard the holocaust as so unique because of the incidental details of how it was carried out. The rounding up, the trains, the gas chambers, the whole industry of it. But it was not all that unique an event in truth. In the late 19th and early 20th century the Armenian genocide came about in a similar manner and functioned in a similar way. There are many similarities in genocide. The holocaust exists as an archetypal series of events mostly because it was documented by the modern super powers of the world. We remember it because they want us to. They dont want us to remember the Nakba or the atrocities carried out by the military dictatorships they upheld across the world.

  • Xcancel is an alternative frontend for twitter to specifically avoid having to create an account to use Twitter. Again you could’ve gotten this information with a simple google search lmao “what is xcancel” 😂 there, I even typed it for you.

I also wasnt the person you responded to initially.

I also think that you’re a startlingly uncurious person if doing even a cursory glance at a google search is too much for you. Maybe these kinds of discussions just arent for you to begin with. If you really couldnt care less whether someone is a fascist or not, certainly not to the point of wanting to actually find out for yourself, then yeah maybe dont partake in the conversation.

You’re more interested in defending being lazy than you are in discussing the subject. I’m sure you’ll say something like “its the principle that matters”, which is the most boring possible answer you could give. I’m more than willing to see if someone hates trans people and/or is a white supremacist. I would absolutely prefer to know that so I can avoid them. It took me very minimal effort to find that information for myself. Less than 2 minutes.

  • Back in the mid 2000s I made a fan website dedicated to my favorite game character, kirby, on one of those “build your own website” type sites. I remember I was like 8 and working on it quite a lot. The site was aimed at like kids / teenagers I think. Can’t remember what it was called to save my life. It definitely does not still exist, but the idea is that I could somehow find the site I made in a backup somewhere. Ive done some pretty deliberate searching over the years but still cant remember what the site builder/hoster was called. Something that started with a P, or had a P in the name, maybe?

  • I think it’s more like a response to the way one of these things is given a disproportionate amount of time and attention. We’re all expected to micromanage every aspect of our lives to diminish our comparatively miniscule impact of personal choice while the state and the ruling class just do whatever the fuck they want actively slaughtering the environment for fun.

You know what would help me minimize my carbon footprint a lot? Public transportation. A renewable energy grid. Affordable food created along sustainable and environmentally conscious supply chains. Electronics and clothing that is manufactured with long term use, maintenance, and recyclability in mind.

Those things are all out of my reach to implement. Me properly sorting my recyclables (which i do) is such a minor impact compared with those other things. Any offsetting done by proper recycling is immediately undone the moment i step into a grocery store, having driven there in my car for lack of public transportation, and buy food that was wastefully produced and transported to my grocery store via fossil fuel based energy.

The majority of our time and energy should be going into fighting back against the state and the ruling class who refuse to structure society around environmental impact, not on almost the almost irrelevant impact of individual workers. We can and should promote recycling, but we can hammer home that point when our whole society isn’t top down engineered with total indifference to the environment.

  • Wonder how long those 2.99 a month figures will last. I give it a year before there’s no seperate remote streaming package and the only remaining one is >10$. The main appeal of Plex was not paying. It’s used by pirates. The goal is content for free. It’s no longer free. I don’t care at all if random people can use my Plex server. If they are unwilling to adapt to a new platform, then I guess they’ll resubscribe to Netflix. Most of them never unsubscribed from Netflix to begin with.

This was the end for me. Used Plex for almost a decade. I’m off to Jellyfin. It’s actually almost no change whatsoever to integrate it into my home setup.

  • Nah. Cool that you think that, though. The moment they started charging for what was a free service, they lost me. I have gigabit internet. The only reason i used their service to begin with was ease of use.

Hot take but maybe everything doesn’t need to be an infinitely expanding business. Just imagine for a second that it’s fine for something to just break even, pay for the few mainteners salaries and not expand the business at all ever. I know that I just uttered the cardinal evil under capitalism but fucking seriously. The primary userbase of plex is pirates. The whole incentive is not having to pay for a streaming service. Charging money for it is just torpedoing your entire userbase. The entire appeal of Plex was it not charging money.
