Those blocks might be not perfect, but they were part of a program to build housing for all those people living in quite bad conditions after the war and after everything that went through in eastern europe in the 20th century. They needed millions of homes and quick. And they might be ugly to some people, but they are better than slums and you shouldn’t take their condition today after several decades for what they were when they were new.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Alternative to Gmail? I currently use my own domain for email, but i miss the priority inboxEnglish
11·29 days agoYou can do most of that without any fancy AI or machine learning: Since you already have your own domain, setup some mail redirects and filter all mails going into them into subfolders. I have a redirect for onlineshopping where all those order confirmation and delivery informations and unwanted newsletters go. I have another I use for creating accounts - all 2FA etc. are going there. And then I have the main mail for actual communication and another redirect for all those interesting substack newsletters and so on.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•What's it going to take to truly stop the US?
2·1 month agoYeah - people and countries are trying to get out of their dependency on the US, but they are trying to do so kind of stealthy to not get in confrontations with Trump (who is totally one to escalate stuff if he notices) and also in a way to minimize their losses.

11·2 months agoNot what you’re searching since it has no social components and is not for gym workouts, but I really like Geoactivity Playground. It takes your Strava Export or uses your GPX files and does really interesting statistics with it. Kind of like Veloviewer, but selfhosted
It may be directly tied to the reason we so rarely see serial killers now
They are still enough around: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_serial_killers_in_the_United_States

The best thing about this is that it enables you to stop organizing all this paper. I have a little box next to my scanner and everything that is scanned is just getting put on top of the pile. In most cases you never need the original document anyways. But if you need it, you can check Paperless when it was scanned and you will find that document from Feb 2023 in a few seconds.
