Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•Is "disk" just a different spelling of "disc" or are they actually different words?
31·1 year agoDisc seems to be anything with a round and flat outer appearance, where disk seems to refer to any other storage media
I think they’re the same word, though.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Don't you all get tired of the constant negativity?
8·1 year agoI agree with this 100%
I used to love wallowing in bad news, but it just got to the point it was having more of a negative impact than it’s worth. I still pay attention to what’s going on, it just doesn’t need to be via an IV bag all day so I filter most of it out now.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•To date, what do you think is the greatest invention or discovery and why?
5·2 years agoI don’t know if this counts, but I’d say the Enlightenment. It was a discovery in that we discovered a new way to interpret the world.
I think there is kind of a glass ceiling when you talk about fire, plumbing, electricity and so on. Each one was a necessary stepping stone to get us where we are, but without any one of them, we wouldn’t be here.
The Enlightenment gave us a brand new sense of autonomy as a species, which in turn has given us a greater amount of control over “Destiny.”

3·2 years agoI don’t think they’re meant to describe someone’s “everywhere all the time” personality. I’ve met and know several people that fit into one or the other.
One friend is completely “alive” at D&D, but quiet and reserved at any other social function, whereas another loves going to concerts, parties, and other social events, but falls asleep trying to play board games.
I don’t think it’s meant to be an end-all, be-all. Just one way to generally categorize personality.
As far as people being complex? Above a certain level, yeah, definitely. But we also have a lot of very low level behavior that’s relatively easy to categorize.

I think you just helped me realize what’s keeping me going…
