Alcohol costs money. Middle class is dead. Probably will see a lot more people making homemade things.

Or pull the trash cans to the curb!

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How do you fight doomerism/pessimism in these trying times?
1·16 days agoYep, specifically home defense, not carrying in the public. My duty to retreat ends at my house. But I don’t leave the house that much, usually work from home, if I was out there more often I may want to look into open or concealed carry laws in my locality, but all those things cost money. I’m already annoyed that I felt worried enough to buy a gun in the first place. Annoyed that I feel it’s prudent to dig up my passport card and carry it in my wallet despite me not traveling abroad.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•I am so scared of nuclear war, how do I cope with it?
10·1 month agoYou can die any number of ways at any time for any reason. Why fixate on one? Probably more likely to die in an automobile accident or some mundane bullshit than nuclear war.
I thought canned air contains bitterants and crap to make it unpalatable.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What should we do? Is blocking this guy "mean"/undeserved?
2·2 months agoAm neurodivergent too. Boundaries are important. On a side note, I never understood pride in things you have no control over. May as well be proud of being carbon based.
I just had a Plex server die on me because I dared to use ReFS and storage spaces 10 years ago.
The performance uplift I got moving to Proxmox and ZFS filesystem was STUPID. And way more stable.
Lots more command line stuff, but in the age of AI assistants and things I don’t feel that hampered by my lack of syntax knowledge.
Obviously this is about a server though, not my gaming rig with is still on W11. But that’s said Steam has moved things along to a point where I feel like gaming on Linux is within reach.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why does everyone put celery in soup stock?
1·2 months agoIt does, but I only really noticed it first when using celery salt in my tuna sandwich mix. That’s probably the easiest way to spot it that I can think. Make a can of tuna and add a lil celery salt and you’re like halfway to a proper tuna salad taste just with that alone.
Going to disagree with the foundation, the motivation of the male characters didn’t make sense either. Luke Skywalker, who found the good in his own father who was a genocidal maniac, considered murdering his nephew in his sleep. Dumbest thing I’ve ever seen. Then was so sad about it that he abandoned the galaxy. Yeah that sounds like a thorough understanding of Luke Fuckin Skywalker. Rian Johnson was a moron making that trash.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What's a video game that you just don't get the hype about?
42·3 months agoDo you not understand competition? There are plenty of games out there that are competitive, not to mention sports in general.
It’s just friendly rivalry, anyone who is experiencing actual hatred is unhinged and needs help. It’s mostly just bluster. I’d say there’s more animosity between fans of sports teams than gamers on different platforms.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why did Thanos, with the power of all the infinity stones, never think to try doubling the amount of resources in the world?
2·4 months agoThat’s a good point too. Perhaps there’s more interstellar communication going on out there with the likes of Nova Core and other technologically advanced space faring groups that word would spread. Surely people would be curious as hell as to why half of life turned to dust randomly and go looking for answers.
I imagine many societies with no definitive answer would probably end up in religious hysteria.
Before the snap Thanos wasn’t necessarily a secret, he was just slowly but surely culling 50% of people on many worlds, one world at a time. Even nicknamed The Mad Titan. Maybe people would put two and two together.
But yeah, I mean I’m just trying to make excuses for a psychopath’s crazed plan lol, that’s all I got!

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why did Thanos, with the power of all the infinity stones, never think to try doubling the amount of resources in the world?
14·4 months agoIf you want to try and rationalize it, I think he might say that the psychological scarring is necessary for all existing societies to change to more sustainable models, or risk another such culling in the future. Due to exponential growth of life, doubling resources, especially while societies continue to abuse those resources wouldn’t probably wouldn’t do anything long term (in his mind).
I am skeptical if such psychological damage can make enough long term inter generational impact, but hey it’s a theory.
Yeah I’m running whatever stock auto updating OS came with my S23.

I am the Plex guy in my group of friends and family. I think there’s probably a bit of confirmation bias at play. Being on Lemmy alone puts you into a niche area of Internet already, which is going to make hearing about geeky things like home labs more common.
So yes, they exist.
