Because it gets a negative response? Regardless of whether they think it has a valid place as an art form, if they know it will get a negative response they probably won’t want to share it.

I think that will be increasingly impossible to enforce, as AI art gets increasingly better.

Plus, if you try to sell the monster at a higher cost than coke, what would stop someone from dumping the coke, and refilling with monster? Paying the lower innitial price, and now getting refills.

People have been doing that for years with buying water, and then filling it with fountain drinks.

I suppose you could counter it the same way that some stores handled the soda refill issue. Have the energy drink refills behind the counter, where only employees can refill it. Have a special cup so employees can tell which customers actually bought an energy drink. Also gives employees a chance to intervene if someone tries to get too much and kill themselves (like with the Panera Bread lemonade/

I wear a bone conductive headset a lot of the time, and I have it set to read out calls or important messages to me. Smartwatches have a similar use, but goal is to not miss a call while also having the phone on silent.

One of the Egypt stories involved men following a woman back to her hotel room, and she had to lock herself inside. They continued to come to her hotel everyday, and bang on her door telling her to let them in. She ended up spending the whole trip stuck in that room, feeling unsafe to leave until she finally got an escort to make it to her flight home.

Unfortunately in cases like that, it really sounds like it goes beyond something you can be adult about and just ignore. I think her main mistake was not doing better research about where it was safe to travel as an unaccompanied woman, as much as I wish that wasn’t a concern.

Yeah I fully get the idea. A lot of racism is ignorance and fear. Humans are bad to take limited experiences of each other and assume that’s the whole experience. When you don’t have your own experiences with a different people, it’s easy to latch onto stories of how bad they can be and form your whole opinion around that. The best counter to that is to have good experiences instead, preferably through friendship.

But some cultures/etc make for a bad travel experience, and that will create or reinforce negative opinions. Living there longer is probably better, but the fact that racism still exists in mixing pot countries like the US proves that living together isn’t enough to make relationships good.

I’ve seen discussions where the topic was something like “Where did you travel to that you would never go back to again”, and the responses there heavily implied that travel can inspire racism.

I learned a lot by using a less common distro (solus). When I would have a problem, the solutions I could find on forums or arch wiki wouldn’t apply to my distro directly, and I would have to look into the solution for long enough to understand what needed to change in order for the solution to work.

You can probably do this on any distro, just by not using commands you find online until you understand what they’re doing and why that might fix your problem. Arch wiki is a great resource for any distro, even though it won’t always be accurate for the distro you’re on.

Wait this is in the US? How, this is even more expensive than Hawaii, and they have obvious reasons for power to be more expensive there

That seems really high, I think power where I live is about 12-14 cents per kilowatt hour. What makes it so expenses where you live?

I know a lot of subreddits like that have rules that you have to be part of the profession to post. Reason being that they don’t want amateurs/etc to fill up the community with posts asking for advice, but instead want it to be a place for people in the profession to be able to talk to other professionals.

I can fully understand that approach, and how following that rule would directly lead to posts like this getting locked. At the same time, this is an interesting post and seems like it would have interesting discussion.

So basically this post probably breaks the written rules of the community, but is the kind of content that they wanted the rules to encourage. If it was my community I’d let the post stay (maybe with a mod comment on why it was allowed to stay up), but it’s always risky to enforce the written rules inconsistently. I’ve seen a lot of communities get upset about inconsistent mods.

Speed wise 55Mb/s is fine. Higher speeds are nice for game downloads/etc but that’s plenty. I had to live with 3Mb/s until a couple years ago, and we were able to have multiple people watching Netflix/etc on different devices. Not 4k obviously, but surprisingly good video quality for the amount of data available.

The data cap could be a problem though. You’ll probably be fine if you don’t download many games, but that’s an easy cap to hit these days.

Twitter is by far the larger platform, and small independent creators have to work to promote their game on every platform they can, if they want to succeed. The moral high ground of not using undesirable social media sites is nice, but isn’t fair to people who are partially dependent on those platforms to make a living.

Cursing frequently seems like a sign of immaturity honestly.

Edit: to be clear, swearing in moderation is fine. But the only people I’ve known to swear excessively were always young, immature, or less than bright. I largely associate heavy swearing with kids and teenagers who swear excessively because they think it will make them see older.

It’s an absolutely massive game, and has been in development for 17 years. They also were pretty upfront with the fact that there would be a price increase at launch. I’ll also mention it’s one of the rarer games where the devs opted out of any Steam DRM, so you can copy the game files and run them on any machine without needing Steam installed. I keep the game on a thumbdrive for playing on my work PC when I have downtime.

All in all I think the price is well deserved, and I hope they do really well.

30% as industry standard

That’s the same as app stores/etc, and is still a common cut to take. I’m not convinced the cuts that Epic is taking are actually sustainable for offering downloads/updates/etc for a game indefinitely, but it’s hard to tell since the Epic store is already bleeding money.

I’ll also mention that Audible (which has a monopoly in the audiobook space) reportably takes a 60-75% cut of audiobooks sold on their platform (they take only 60% if you agree to sell exclusively on audible, but they take the full 75% if you want to sell the book somewhere else as well). Monopolies abusing their position is really common, but I haven’t seen anything similar from Steam that makes me think they’re abusing their position. I suspect PC gaming would be in a far worse state if another company controlled the popular storefront.

Being a small game dev has a lot of uncertainty and risk. I wouldn’t blame any small dev for taking a guaranteed paycheck from Epic. Larger studios with safe prospects should be blamed though imo. Gearbox with Borderlands 3 for example.
