Follow-up: I think people historically, and today, want numbers to take up not much space - historically so they fit in ledgers, but also because calculations take up so much space on paper so small numbers helps.

When people were doing bookkeeping they generally work slow and carefully, and can therefore afford to focus on legibility rather than resorting to cursive.

Cursive just opens up more potential for mistakes - misreading your own working, for instance.

Just tried it and it looks crap - I can’t imagine how to write “321” clearly in cursive, for instance. I think that’s why.

Roman numerals kind of work in cursive (sometimes i to x are written in lowercase, e,g in document indexes) so maybe it’s all downstream of our numbers actually originating from arabic calligraphy?

It can be handled by both but you need to bear in mind that most barbers are uhhh they just don’t understand long hair. Ask them to keep it a medium length they’re gonna give you something short. Its’ really a question of what risk you’re willing to handle.

Capitalism, (needlessly) increases competition for resources, access to markets, and even results in fierce competition over abstract things. This is exacerbated the more unmanaged capitalism becomes, so I think True capitalism would have more problems than whatever we live under now.

Is the best thing a mix of socialism and capitalism?

I think so, yes. I am of the view that capitalism is a relic of the past, a developing species or developing society kind of thing, but communism, if it’s the ideal way of structuring society, belongs to the future. A more automated and technologically advanced future.

Some areas should just be nationalised, so if a water company, train line, airline, network provider, energy provider, car manufacturer becomes big enough then the government should aim to own their monopoly.

I like worker owned things as well, but there’s no use introducing it unless the situation demands it. If we take amazon as an example, i would have to see it reach that point only after failing to comply to demands like paying taxes and treating workers with respect. We should legislate these things into being better rather than taking over.

Because the economy should generally aim to be as simple and efficient in organisation as possible.

I’m not a reddit fan or hater, there’s just niche communities I like being apart of on reddit that I can’t communicate with anymore.

Here are some more facts about reddit IP bans:

• They also take your device ID/“fingerprint” on the devices you log into banned account with
• This can be reset by factory resetting a device apparently, but:
• supposedly, because of data protection, they get rid of this ID anyway, as well as your saved IP address, after a fixed period. Maybe 30 days or 3 months? So if you didnt use reddit in all that time you’d be good to go with a new email address

You should also avoid quickly joining all your favourite subreddits, because it flags accounts for that. Basically move like a tortoise when you rejoin, and then after a while you can use reddit normally.

You can get banned from any community if the mods decide to - the good news is a communty called “ye power tripping bastards” which serves as the court to get an appeal, if that’s important to you

I can completely understand wanting to use reddit again (hope you stick with us too, if you do) but you should know it’s super hard to get past any kind of permanent ban.

Did you use multiple reddit accounts or just one? the problem for me is that i got IP banned because they detected me logging in to a banned one on the same browser. It is borderline impossible for me to use reddit for commenting & posting again.

I’ve taught him about “low quality” content and we’ve watched a couple so he could understand what I meant. Now, when he wants to watch something like that, I say “no, that’s going to be low quality,” he seems to understand and we move on to find something else.

Honestly never thought about how I would teach my (hypothetical, future) kid this stuff. I have the benefit of a decade of experience learning how youtube works and living through the clickbait endemic.
I guess that’s why it’s so important for parents to navigate YouTube together with them. My first experience of YT was also watching cool stuff like VSauce and Lego animations with my family.

Sometimes you see toddlers who are just playing blaring loud noises from tablets at restaurants. You also see adults&teenagers doing that on trains… I guess I would point them out to my kid afterwards and say “that’s what happens when you watch too mcuh brainrot!”
