  • Marble has a density of 0.098 lbs/in3. So a 500lb sphere has a volume of 500lb/.098lb/in3= 5102 in3. That gives a radius of (5102 in3 * (3/(4pi)))(1/3)= 10.68 in.

Let’s say the bowl it sits in has 2/3 the radius. So 7.12in. That makes the enclosed surface area pi*( 7.12in) 2= 160in2. So 500lbs/160in2 = 3.14 psi. How fast do you think the water will spray out at 3.14 psi? Without any drag, out of an ideal nozzle, it would be 6.5mph. However, the pressure will actually be higher in the middle and tapers off to 0 at the edge thanks to the flow diverging and drag. So really the pressure drop at the opening is even smaller.

There’s a lot of lifting area which means you don’t actually need much pressure. You can lift entire buildings with large water bags.

  • I don’t agree that it’s better than every dessert. Learn to bake your own desserts and they don’t have to be too sweet, but can still have amazing flavors and textures.

However, I do like fresh fruits better than any sweetened electrolyte drinks. Melons and cucumbers combined with a salty snack is very refreshing and won’t spike your blood sugar nearly so much as a sports drink.

It’s not the disc itself that people care about, it’s having a transferrable license. People want the option to rent games, or give them away/resell after playing. Physical media provides some legal protections for that because you are buying a license attached to the thing storing the software.

Digital distribution is a perfectly fine way to get a game, if it weren’t synonymous with big companies taking away your ownership of the right to use software you purchased. You can’t share a game you enjoyed with friends. If you lose access to your account you’re SOL. If the host server shutsdown, you better have had a stable copy installed/backed up.

People don’t hate digital downloads, they hate the consumer abuse they have enabled. Stop the consumer abuse, and only collectors will care about physical media.

  • He hasn’t had a great streak in completing progress in haunted chocolatier because he keeps getting pulled back into stardew valley ports and making new content for stardew valley. If he and his collaborators soon have to support both stardew valley and haunted chocolatier across multiple platforms, I don’t expect development on a new stardew valley game to progress quickly at all. I would expect half life 3 like timelines.

  • The North Carolina legislature has a supermajority of far right republicans. The NC GOP is currently brazenly attempting to throw out legitimate ballots to steal a state supreme court seat, and the courts are going along with it. If they want to move for political concerns, I don’t think NC is enough of an improvement to justify the disruption involved.

  • Another way to view it is that college classes are filled with your future colleagues, and should be treated similar to a workplace. Students should generally dress similarly to how they expect to dress in their future workplaces. Whether that excludes a tank top is a matter of discretion, but clearly the proffesor did not find it to be professional. There’s no hard and fast rule, but I am surprised by the indignant tone in the comments here. Lectures are the domain of the professor and its not outlandish for them to set expectations about what they consider acceptable conduct for their lectures.

  • The stuff that is heavier than water ends up in the river delta, everything else dilutes into the ocean. Once it’s in the ocean, there’s not much humans can do about it. Promoting populations of sea grass and filter feeders like mussels can at least capture pollution in a form that settles to the seabed and improves water quality.

There will be pockets of pollution that persist for a long time, and floodwaters could stir some of that back up, but the above poster is correct. Cleaning up a river can be as simple as stopping the sources of the pollution. A dirty river is dirty because stuff keeps getting added to it. Of course stopping sources of pollution is way easier said than done.

  • Is the sales tax in your area 7.5% by any chance?

    $16 x (100/107.5)= $14.88

I don’t see any gloves priced at 14.88 on their website at a quick check. I wonder if the store is trying to set a price that tallies to an even dollar amount and doesn’t know the connotation. I only recently learned about those numbers being associated so I would like to believe a benign explanation. Maybe you could ask to talk to a store manager next time you see it an make sure they know to avoid that price point.
