  • Because they are assholes losers that care more about winning than the disgusting things they have to do to win.

There is no honor or decorum left in politics, just naked greed and the concentration of power. Our politicians are the result of the corrupt environment they live in.

Until we seriously start removing money from politics we will be stuck in a ever increasing enshitification feedback loop where the only people who are represented are the wealthy.

We are not different, that is just an excuse. I have grandkids already for Christ sake.

We should not be encouraging social disconnection in our society and become dependent on machines.

I get it, they are more convenient for YOU. But at what cost to everyone else?

Like I was saying, just because we have a bunch of people who have not been socialized doesn’t mean we should be encouraging it with technology.

You say you are old, but you personalize like a teenager still.

  • Right to repair is not about demanding unlimited software support it is saying we want access to the API so we can do our own support if we choose to.

It is about designing products that can be repairable and providing the means to do so. Regulations will be required to do this because a big part relies on standardization of parts.

This is because we can’t expect manufacturers to continuously supply parts. That is unrealistic. On the other hand, if you require standardized parts then it becomes repairable without the burden on the manufacturer.

  • Companies grow and shrink from a combination of market and internal forces. Companies sometimes need to shrink or grow. The economy and culture are constantly changing. That is why it is very hard to predict where things will go.

Your example of having a company with a set amount of employees that produce a set product happens pretty frequently. A lot of employee owned or family businesses are this way.

I think most of your post can be summed up with why do investors want more and more money. The answer is because they can. If your company owes money to investors then they will beholden to them in one form or another.

There is another worthy discussion here and it is about boards. Boards that do not contain equal representation for the employees and the public can be very destructive.

Most of the corporate abuses we have suffered come from having perverse leadership non-representative of these two most important influences.

  • There is no theft period. There is perhaps copyright infringement for commercial entities. This is a civil legal matter and has almost no bearing on anything you are discussing.

You must also consider all art is iterative. This means all art is based off art that came before it. You cannot create art in a vacuum and every artist borrows heavily from our culture

We are not here to judge what is or isn’t art either. This is a treacherous road where people can deny art like a collage because it doesn’t fit their definition of art. Everyone is actually an artist by definition unless they have literally never spoken, written, sang, or drawn.

There is definitely a worthy discussion around AI art. Right now we don’t really have AI so it is not really creating anything. It is more of fill in the blank taking the best guesses based on prior work.

I believe, as other posters have stated, that Intellectual Property is actually anti-art, anti-science, and anti-technology. The problems we face with AI pale in comparison to a broken system beset by capitalists hell bent on controlling our culture and extracting as much money as they can through doing so.
