I try to be, but don’t always hit the mark.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What are your thoughts about H5N1 "bird flu"? Are you doing anything to prepare? Think it's overblown?
5·1 year agoI still can’t believe they’ve managed to make not getting sick a political stance.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Was banning human slavery an authoritarian decision?
6·1 year agoNo. A nation that allows slavery doesn’t practice human rights. For human rights to exist they have to apply to everyone, which can’t work if some people are considered property.
No amount of gotchas, or arguing semantics is going to make slavery okay, and the way you’re replying to peoples answers makes me think you fundamentally don’t understand the question.
I threw out my shoulder trying on shirts at the store the other day…

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•How do people fall for believing in socialism, despite its downfalls?
1·2 years ago“Democratic capitalism” is an oxymoron, as without an incredibly large number of regulations, capital will replace democracy as the primary decision maker, by design.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•To those with 2+ monitors on your machine: What's your use case, and how much does it actually boost your productivity?
2·2 years agoNot a software developer, I just do QA on written documents, and being able to have 3-4 windows side by side is really nice. I usually have 1-2 tracking spreadsheets open on the left, and two documents side by side on the right. I use a laptop at work as well, so sometimes I’ll leave it’s screen on for email and Teams chat so neither interrupts my work.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What are Some Good, Recent, and Available Dumb Cars?
3·2 years agoNot OP, but my most recent car is a 2016 Hyundai Accent, and I think it’s perfect. The doors and ignition operate with physical keys, the displays are all physical indicators directly behind the wheel, all the controls have tactile, physical buttons instead of a touchscreen, no infotainment system, and no subscription options.
I don’t think I’d ever want a car more “smart” than that, but I’m not sure such a thing even exists anymore.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What is a gender neutral replacement for man, guys, buddy, etc?
5·2 years ago“Hey gang!”

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Lemmings, do you use any social media outside of the Fediverse?
6·2 years agoSince Musk bought Twitter I’ve been more active on Tumblr and as long as you don’t go anywhere that takes itself too seriously, it’s actually refreshing and lovely.
Similarly, when I signed up for Bluesky I decided I’d only follow people I know IRL and artists, and to not be afraid to use the mute or block, and it’s been great. Just a steady stream of art and people discussing art.
I’ve also got Mastodon, Pillowfort, and Cohost accounts I never really use.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Anyone ever have a baked potato explode?
15·2 years agoYep! One of the worst burns I’ve ever gotten too. The potato sticks to you like glue and doesn’t come off right away.
Really sucks.
I’d been hearing talk of Lemmy as a potential Reddit alternative around the third party app debacle, but nobody seemed to be taking it terribly seriously until I saw the Star Trek subreddits open startrek.website for themselves.
That got me interested. It was the first instance I can remember of one of the bigger communities I followed just up and moving like that, and it made the whole thing feel more real.
Keep looking. You’ll get it eventually.
Oh my god, we get it, you’re exhausting.
No, I’m not providing proof of this exhaustion. Do your own research.
First thing I’d do is panic, because who’s left to help me plan the funeral and everything else? I had a lot of help with my father’s estate and it was still a nightmare. I couldn’t even imagine doing that with nobody to help.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Tell me about your cockroach horror story
1·2 years agoConsidering where they’re coming from, I think that’s spot on, and I feel like it’s going to get to that sooner than later.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Tell me about your cockroach horror story
4·2 years agoAaaaaaaaaah, I hate it.
New neighbour moved in earlier this year and brought them with them, and they’re just little German cockroaches, but seeing them at all freaks me out. I’d probably die in your case.
Landlord’s done a full “move all the furniture” spray treatment, and bi-weekly gel treatment, and they just keep coming. Mostly babies, but no matter how clean the kitchen counter top is I still find them scurrying about on it.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What is the device you want, but that does not exist?
16·2 years agoI’d like a digital personal assistant actually designed to help me keep track of my day to day stuff, rather than one designed to steal and sell all my information.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What was a profound moment that a video game caused you to experience, and why?
2·2 years agoJourney does such a good job of conveying emotion through the environment and music, when I was done I just kind of sat for a bit thinking “woah”.
I don’t usually get that emotional with games, and I’m still not sure which emotion I was feeling, other than “all of them”, but it was more than a game, it was an experience.

If you have enough money to be in the 1% and choose to keep it to remain in the 1% instead of using it to right the many many wrongs in the world, you can’t be a good person.
Just having that much money, and not using it is a moral failing.
