This is by no means to agree with him, but it occurs to me that his position is but a matter of degree from the bloatware enthusiasts’ mantra: “Unused RAM is wasted RAM!”

21·13 days agoevery engine is going to be like that now at least partly.
…
all modern game engines will potentially have AI code in.
I think you might have understood me better than you let on. Or a strong wind blew the goal posts just enough to accommodate the word “modern” where they first stood.
Time will tell whether, in the future, all modern Scotsmen will eat slop with their porridge. At present there are still many extant Scotsmen who do not.

141·13 days agoI notice slopcoders often maintain that “slop code is just as good as code written by humans- in fact it is better!” while also refusing to clearly label their output as slop.

31·13 days agoI mean to be honest every engine is going to be like that now at least partly.
If that is so then disclosing the fact will carry little if any stigma.
However I don’t see why you would suppose that any amount of slop code being published might make (for example) the Quake engine become slop.

7·15 days agoCould also be because AI slop is made by industrial plagiarism on a scale you likely fail to comprehend.
The equivalent of a joke thief’s joke being funny when you do not know it is stolen and have not heard it told by the original comedian. “That Carlos Mencia is a genius. His domination of comedy is inevitable.”

Dual hall effect sticks (no dead zone, that’s right, zero dead zone), wireless USB, bluetooth, and wired functionality for $25. That’s $5 less than the MSRP on the Logitech F710.

3·15 days agoAnd if you want your cursor to just go where you put it, stay there, and not be so damn extra… XFCE does that.
Those who do not learn from Comet Cursor are doomed to repeat it.
This quantum leap could be just the breakthrough Firefox needed to set event coordinates during HTML 5 mouse drag events.

3·22 days agoThe most valuable position in the market right now is as a substitute of search enginesm
The second most valuable position in the market is as a tool to speed up work for already skilled people.
I perceive them as having equal value. In each case the technology is forced on users in a top-down way and results in worse outcomes.
I don’t expect you’ll agree; that’s not the same as what I wrote being “Not really true.”

9·22 days agoThat is true but does not pertain to what I wrote.
To be more precise, LLMs’ present valuation in the market is not based on their being a skill so much as the end of skill.

18·22 days agoThe problem with “LLM requires skill to use correctly.” is that LLM’s are not being sold as a skill but rather the end of skill.

31·22 days agoAI has fundamentally changed how you do CS in industry, it’s completely unavoidable at this point and not using it in some capacity is doing yourself a massive disservice
If it was in truth inevitable then there would be no need to constantly shriek “It is inevitable!”
There is also evidence that deferring critical thinking to an LLM causes cognitive atrophy.

Honor that needs to be enforced is not honor. It is something less.
