Somewhat different motivations though I’d say.

I mean, sorry if I misread your intentions, but your phrasing in such a thread in response to the OP appears to make a statement. You are also aware that the people cheerleading this war are echoing exactly what you said, in essentially the exact same words.
No need to be a dick.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Why do people have issues with OnlyFans Models and Porn Stars.English
13·20 days agoThis, it’s purely moralistic fart sniffing. That and folks who can’t control themselves and blame the performers for being too tempting.
Honestly, what makes us the world police? I don’t want protestors killed, but dropping bombs on schools is not the help they need.
lol, yeah, wife is a nurse, she brings them home for me :).
Reapers man, let’s just say I wash extremely well these days after cutting them up.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How do you feel about a 25 year old dating a 46 year old?English
11·27 days agoI say may, only because there are edge cases and exceptions to the rule. Few and far between I’ll grant you.
Still, unresolved parental issues need a partner too, so no skin off my nose…

81·28 days agoI think it’s kinda weird and likely indicates that one or both have some unresolved parental issues. I even may silently judge, but it’s none of my business otherwise.
And just where can one procure such a pile of towels?

9·2 months agoRight, I run almost the same stack as this guy, but on a dumpster dive office PC turned into my NAS, and three used, micro form factor pc’s I picked up for 60 bucks. My most expensive thing is the hot swap silverstone case for the refurb 4 and 10tb hdds.
Also, why pfsense when opnsense exists (j/k, just my preference).

Linux@lemmy.ml•Bcachefs creator claims his custom LLM is 'fully conscious'English
1·2 months agowas having that exact conversation with a buddy yesterday, he figures we’ll see the first attempt this year.
I personally don’t think you can have a romantic relationship with a thing you created. romance is about discovering, learning and growing with someone else. When that else is a manifestation of yourself, it’s ultimately masturbation.

3·2 months agoI love it when a brief comment just strips all the arguments to their core. This is exactly it. I’d say he was looking for a companion, but folks don’t create companions to be equals, they create them to control them.
This is just a really fancy, incredibly power hungry sextoy, isn’t it?
I too have been to Jamaica. That second bite of brownie was an experience.
Why it was funny in the first place. I knew I was messing with the best.
I swear on my life this happened to me but I don’t care if you believe me or not.
This goes back some years, back when the ping of death was still a thing. I used to hang out in IRC channels and someone decided they needed to show me what a real hacker could do. The dork asked for my IP which was hilarious to begin with, so I replied “127.0.0.1”. About 2 seconds later I see them disconnect from IRC.
A minute goes by and they are back online, spitting mad. Tells me i’m lucky their computer crashed but I’d better get ready…and disconnected again.
Back again and folks are dying laughing thanks to my 1337 teenage hacker skills but eventually someone spills that 127.0.0.1 is localhost. Instantly I’m talking to zero cool again and was too scared to give out my actual address. Being a hardened nerd, this time I complied.
I was on slackware and had already figured out their game from the get go; oh and I actually knew how to find an IP. So right in the middle of this future titan of industry’s insults and threats…they disconnect one last time. 😎

Jellyfin: The Free Software Media System@lemmy.ml•I’m done with RAID5English
4·3 months agoThis is why I went back to a simple snapraid and Mergerfs setup. It only spins up the disk it uses, slow but a lot more efficient. It also is based on dead simple ext4 drives which are all still accessible even if the software fails; it’s all file level. I’ve lost many drives over the years and have successfully rebuilt every time.
Scale is about the same as yours, about 24tb made up of 4 and 10tb disks. It’s unglamorous, it’s old school but it works and is reliable.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Does self hosting your own internet count?English
6·3 months agoIt’s a lot of fun, but not an internet replacement yet. They did just come out with a new dual band that has enough bandwidth to do something useful. Can’t wait to give it a try.
Still very worth setting up. I have a node that runs in my attic, and a few that I can take around with me. I can get good single most anywhere in my neighborhood, and I have enough nodes nearby that I can pretty much communicate with people all over the metro area (I’m in the twin cities).

The fact that someone even asks this question tells me there is something deeply wrong with the culture these days. No shade on you OP, I’m sure you are a good person. But it’s obvious that corporate propaganda has worked extremely well.
No, absolutely not, you are well within your rights to buy off brand and second hand equipment. Heck, I consider it a moral victory in avoiding the hellish markups the big brands put on their consumables.
Push back when kind of question comes up, we have to counter the propaganda, otherwise it will soon become law. I’m certain home tool manufacturers would move to a printer ink model in a heartbeat. It’s bad enough that there isn’t a universal battery mount as it is.
