Ellie’s character model in the game is clearly based on Elliot Page before he transitioned. Go watch Juno, the resemblance is uncanny. Elliot won’t do it for obvious reasons so they had to get a replacement.

Outside of OP’s weird issues concerning Elliot Page…

My issue with the casting for season 2 is Abby is supposed to be strong. She spent 5 years after her father died, pounding protein and lifting weights, practicing martial arts, living and breathing vengeance for her father’s murderer… and in the game she looks it.

The casting, though? Some super petite brunette who looks cute. But… ok, ok, looks of an actor don’t make the character, so we’ll see what she does and if the story and her acting shines through.

I also had the same issue with the Martian Marine from The Expanse, not only was she not strong looking… her acting wasn’t believable.

I think it would be an insult to Elliot to act as a woman for money like a figurative deadnaming but when the last of us was written he was a woman if that makes sense which makes me think he that character was based on. Ellie is zombie Juno.

Had to agree with your first half, but your comment about Bobby from the Expanse would make a great unpopular opinion post!

There are plenty of physically strong looking actresses, WTF did they get that soft looking lady who doesn’t even come off as ‘real’ or believable when she’s trying to act ‘bad ass’?

The obvious reason of course being that he is wealthy. I can’t imagine any serious, hungry actor would turn down a significant and meaningful role just because it required playing cross gender.

No. It is because Elliot is a man and it would be insulting to ask him to play as a female character. It’s like a psychical deadnaming.
