There were so many options for this joke
Sorry maybe I’m being thick but I don’t understand the question in any context other than the given answer?
By which I mean the question only makes sense as a question if you already know the punchline, which means the person asking already knew, so formatting the joke as a comment calling them an idiot like that, is fundamentally compromised. It’s like those Facebook boomer joke exam papers where the kid has written “hilarious” answers to questions that obviously have never appeared on any real exam.
The joke is
A: making fun of people who think ancient people couldn’t have built the pyramids
B: making fun of cigarettes via the ridiculous implication that they would be necessary for the task
That’s even more damning then, if the main pop culture connection between pyramids and cigarettes was already Camels
My read is:
- Someone posts an image with pyramids and the caption, “How tf did they build this without any [something]”
- Someone takes the image from 1, pastes some Marlboro reds over whatever [something] was there before, presumably to express that cigarettes are a required ritual in the construction trade
- Someone makes the camel comment, taking the piss out of 2
- Someone screenshots 3 and posts it here
The original was the word “airpods,” then the Marlboro one, then the following version:
Then someone posted just the Marlboro edit and another person in the know of the camel joke repeated the punchline in the comments.
These kind of memes honestly feel like Malboro found a way to circumvent advertising rules, so I assume the joke’s on all of us, I guess.

I mean it’s possible that before the meme creator put the picture of the Marlborough Reds over the screenshot of the post, it said something like “cranes”, “Ford Raptors”, or “iced coffee and rotisserie chicken”.

It’s not a joke though. There’s no connection whatsoever between Marlboros and any topic even tangentially related to construction or pyramids. It’s a complete non-sequitur. It only makes sense if you’re about to get on as your alt to fake a witty comeback.
