Just stick with OMV, its solid.
TrueNAS is probably the most popular one. It’s pretty solid but also does a lot of things (like running apps in docker) and you have to get used to some design choices.
OMV also runs docker containers, I have a handful of containers running on mine.
I found it too complicated compared to OMV. But it’s a good option.
Didn’t they just abandon the FOSS edition recently?

Any reason why you want to change from OMV. It’s not perfect but my go to media server.

There’s also XPenology - a hacked Synology software to run on non-Synology systems. Awesome when you’ve got it running, can be somewhat adventurous and/or nerve-wrecking when a major update is due.

I chose xpenology because I wanted that HDD expandability (because of HDD prices I wanted to only fill 2 of 4 slots and buy other discs later) that only DSM seemed to offer - and I already had a Synology running so I knew my way around it…
It was running beautifully on my new dxp4800+. I even have an extra SSD for my docker containers. And I didn’t need to buy outdated, but very expensive Synology hardware.
But now I need to update from 7.2 to 7.4 and I’m scared. 😁
I already have a game plan. Just… “Backup everything first” - how do you do this with 20TB of data?
