    I assumed this might have been a late 90s article about the “dangers” of internet addiction.

    It was from fucking 2015. I really really hope it was satire.

      oh man, in 98 it was nothing to spend 5 hours a day online.

      Keep in mind that 35% of that was connecting and reconnecting.

          Why would your download fail if a phone call comes in. Genuinely curious.I mean I know you guys were using voodo magic back in the day to get internet access. But still wouldn’t it just get paused and resume once call was over?

            Dial up internet used phone lines. The same phone lines your calls came in on. Anytime someone called or someone tried to call out, you were very likely disconnected and had to reconnect. Early on, there were no download managers that would pause and reconnect you to finish a download if interrupted.
